New (used) IH 7500 Dump Truck purchase, modification & fix up

/ New (used) IH 7500 Dump Truck purchase, modification & fix up #321
After a lot of looking around for a dump truck, I finally found pretty much what was wanted.
Must haves were
1. 4x4 chassis
2. Heavy specs (>35K GVWR)
3. Higher than typical HP/TQ
4. 3 stage engine brakes
5. Automatic trans
6. Single thick frame-not double.

I hit on the first 5, but not 6.

2007 IH 7500 4x4, 41,000 GVWR, HT570 (310/1050) with 3 stage brake, Allison Rugged Duty series, double frame.

Just got here today and didnt have a lot of time to go through it. It has a wing plow frame and a stainless steel dump with a live floor salter system and spinner.
I have no use for the salting equipment and would prefer to sell everything off the truck and install a standard 12’ steel dump box.
Nice truck!

It’s going to be too nice to use. Just park it and take it out to car shows. :D

If it ever gets done!

It’ll get put to work pretty fast, but my guess is it’ll have teething pains for the next year. Probably electrical or rust related gremlins.

Worth the wait, though. (y)

One thing I have noticed is when I drive it, the fuel pedal is hard to keep steady. When the truck bounces, your foot bounces, too. This causes an unsteadiness in speed.

I’m thinking it’s because the chassis is so light with no body on it, it bounces a lot, but once it gets the dump bed, it’ll bounce less.

Your probably going to fill it up with logs from your storm cleanup job.

The storm clean up job just came together this week. And it sure would be nice to have for it, though. If I put an electric tarp to cover the bed, we could lower the tailgate and blow wood chips into it.
And yes, haul logs.

I also have a ditching job that’s been planned for 2 years (primary reason for purchase) and a stone barn wall to rebuild.

I noticed that even driving new tandem chassis around the building at work, it was hard to keep a steady pedal, not that I can drive a truck worth a d**n anyway LOL.

My 750 is like that. The rough ride is part of the problem but the throttle response just isn’t very good either. It wants to go or not go. It doesn’t maintain consistent rpm under light load very easily. I changed the throttle position sensor which helped but didn’t eliminate it.

Hey the bed is mounted!!

I couldn’t really get a good picture of it, too cramped & dark in the shop.

A small set back: The cylinder leaks. Rebuild will be about $900.

I’m adding front tow hooks. I plan on getting stuck pretty often lol.

Really needs cosmetic help. The cab steps are shot. The front fender flares & splash guards are faded to light gray and cracked. The wheels are gross. The front grill is missing pieces…..
Time to start buying more parts I guess!

I’ll get some better pictures soon, but hey, at least it’s a dump truck now.

It took awhile but she's a far sight closer that she was a few months back. As for the fender flares, try the heat route, it works wonders. Any good heavy junk yards in your area? $900 for a reman, how much is it now for a new one?
