The facts remain. Talk with any one born after the year 2000. They are not buying the American dream of work hard and get ahead. I'm not talking about engineering students. I'm talking about the young people who normally fill the service jobs until they move onto better jobs. These kids are not interested in mopping floors or flipping burgers even at $15 an hour. This is the problem.
They want instant gratification. Short hours and big money. I don't know about now but it sure didn't work that way when I was young. I remember asking a boss to pay me more and i would work harder... he said it don't work that way. Work harder and we will pay you more.
There is a big trend of young people changing jobs frequently to gain pay based upon their experience at their present job.
And then many kids who make as much as a doctor by selling crack. It's a mess.

Strange. Tips usually came after serving. Maybe he kept track of them for the next time.
I never bussed the bags myself but I did occasionally buy at the commissary. It was usually pretty obvious when the customer was standing outside with money in their hand while groceries are being loaded vs sitting in the car and waiting for the groceries to be loaded.

You are citing who is in the labor force. My point is if you look at current HS graduates, many aren’t entering the labor force, and a much higher percentage are staying out of the labor force for years while they obtain advanced degrees. These are many of the young people who are not part of the participation rate. I delayed participation for 4 years while in school, many are now delaying for 8 years while getting advanced degrees. They participate part time or during summers.
I had to get many a job to get through college. No one gave me pocket money, food or rent. How are they not?

My youngest worked at the university during undergraduate studies. My oldest gets a research grant to do his PhD work. It’s pretty slim, but his wife is employed as a teacher.

Still spiking here.
Wouldn’t mind knowing when the “spiking” might stop.

This data flies in the face of your premise that more hs grads are going to college.

I don’t see what you’re referring to. This is from the document you posted. It shows an increase. And there’s no information about more people being in school longer to pursue advanced degrees.

Graduating from college with a 4 year degree has become diluted. It used to be a special thing. Now it seems like almost everyone goes to college.
