Looks good, is it a bit tight getting to hookup the pto?
If long enough at times I'll hook up the pto's then back the rest of the way in some implements.

The Pat’s quick hitch gives a little more room. Even a new pto shaft was easy to connect. Connected to tractor first then to the generator but could do either way.

Looking good.

On mine, I also added 3 of those Volt/Amp/Hz meters. One per phase. Works awesome and only cost like $4 each.

I like that! Wondering if I should monitor the amps per leg?

Another concern is grounding. No problem with houses or barn since tied to the building ground system. But if used remotely need a ground. Like a slide hammer grounding rod like the military uses?

For the price of those things, it's pretty much a no brainer having a meter per leg.

As far as grounding, I'm not using one on mine. Probably should though.

If the wiring compartment is readily accessible, I would bond the neutral and the ground at the generator for remote use.
Just make sure any cords you use have continuity on the ground prong.

Worked on making a weatherproof cover. Pto slot cut. Need a few ventilation and cord holes. Holding down with bungees for now. Need some blocking at the base to keep from shifting. Think the concept will work and keep the generator dry in inclement weather. Strong enough to push on the top for positioning.

I like it. I envisioned your project with the trash can laying horizontally with the lid closing on the back of the generator. Better access like you have it.

Do you get heat buildup inside the enclosure?

I used a plastic deck box in a similar manner to cover my 12KW PTO generator. I had to prop the lid open a bit to vent the heat buildup produced under heavy load.

Appreciate the experience advice. Definitely something I’ll monitor. Propping up the lid a possibility. A simple bungee across and under the lid could give variable space and still give rain protection. Generator is fan cooled. Pulling air from back thru the alternator. Not shown very well in the photos, there is a 6x15” slot for the pto on front and 1x21” slot overhang on the back. There will be holes for cords, large for 50amp industrial plug. Also plan for some 1” holes around under the generous drip edge of the container lid. As you can see the lid also swings completely away if needed. Maybe some side holes/slots or louvers that align with generator fan flow path? The trash can is surprisingly heavy, strong and tough material made for rugged handling in outdoor extreme temperatures. Wall thickness 3/16”. It doesn’t say but suspect this one was 65gallon capacity. $35, used, sourced locally. We have the larger 96gallon style.
