Just arrived and hour meter is broken

I've seen a softening of bigger Kubotas at auction lately. Mostly TIER IV that you don't want, and I don't either, but maybe a microcosm of a bigger trend in prices. There have been sales of pre-TIER IV larger Kubotas at lower prices than typical of the past 18 months as well.
You can search results at TractorHouse as well as Equipment Facts. Much of what shows up on dealer lots is from auctions.

I'm nervous buying anything used, unless I know the source but can suggest you look at Mast tractors in the link below. Local Amish/Mennonite family that has things others can't get. They pay more and they get more but I have found them beyond reproach. FYI

Well, I got my M105s a few hours ago. Been playing with it and besides a loose steering wheel and worn FL tire it looks good. I glanced down at the hours and guess what. It hasn't moved!!

This thing could have 10k hours on it! I bought it from a kubota dealership out of state who explicity told me via voice, email, and ad that is had 1555hrs. Well, 2 hours later it still does.


Whats my recourse? He's not answering his cell phone at the moment.

I didn't have time to read it all...
I agree independent review if you can't or don't have the mechanical knowledge to review anything used.
I agree people should be honest in dealings life is too short and it sucks not being able to trust anyone. they could have been a pain and just played stupid and made life way more complicated but glad they did the right thing.
Dealer in this case is stand up, they learned of the issue.. admitted they made a mistake and took actions to correct it.. like it should be done in life. Honestly I feel they should almost be commended and I hope this gives them credibility in the community.

Now to the machine in Q.... haven't really seen any photos... but a worn tire .. almost bald = a lot of hrs in my book, if 2k is mostly worn then another 2k gets you to cords showing? and it sounds like they run the tires until they go flat.. good ROI but dang. I assume the rest of the tractor looked fairly used as well.


In terms of HR meters... in construction industry it was - is common for them to fail and never be replaced, disconnect, especially the simple $20 special ones. With computer controls not such a big of deal as the ECU keeps track still. I know most Kubota have dash integrated into the Tach so those aren't as cheap to swap out and or disconnect but it happens. I recon my point is you really need to look at the overall look of the machine.. does it look like 500 or 5,000 or maybe 10,000 tires, paint, tread, pedal wear, seats, armrests, bucket wear, pin wear.. all play a role in showing age and maintenance.

Final update. They wired the money back to me after they said they didn't know how to do that.

A shipper came and picked it up today.

All done.

Now I need a tractor.

I'm currently looking at a JD 5085 low profile with the heavy duty FEL and 1000hrs, but it's got DEF and that makes me a bit leary - it's a whole additional system that can go wrong. Theres not much out there otherwise and hasn't been for some time.

Nope. 6,000hr machine isn't even worth that much. Plus it was an 8spd.

Assuming that's a 5085M, those are well regarded tractors around here and commonly used by municipalities for mowing and utility things. It a common large farmer "smaller" tractor for things like pulling carts, utility and loader work. I don't recall one breaking down or any strange issues.I had a predecessor version 5520 and it was a wonderful pre-emission powerhouse. Heavy, strong castings, powerful engine and beefy trans. There are still lots of those 55 and similar series around, such as 5520, 5525 and up with reasonable hours. I've seen enough with 9,000+ hours on grain farms to notice.

With the 5085M's around here, municipalities pile on the hours and roll tractors every two years for new to stay in warranty. They get high trade-in values because of high resale so it works for them. Dealers seem to offer big discounts on new so take a look. Friends of mine are township guys and speak highly of the 5085M's as well as related higher HP versions. If you go with DEF, that seems to be one that is popular.

If you happen to go new it's still worth a look at a larger Kubota. Deere is heavier but I find Kubota more reliable with a more user friendly dealer network. Deere still brings a higher price but that is eroding as Kubota makes inroads. I've had 100 HP Kubotas for 25 years and no drama. You probably know most of the above from reading but the Midwest is the proving ground.

New is difficult because of cost and family restraints but I can't recall buying new and later regretting it. I can recall buying used and later wishing I didn't. Just my free opinion.

In 6 months it'll be someone else's issue. I have to find a new tractor now.

I was thinking of getting some projects done while I wait for then to get it, but I'd be so mad at myself if something broke. So it's just parked until the driver comes.

So glad your tractor issue was resolved. There was a tractor youtuber who bought a tractor from auction and found out it was stolen. After jumping through a few hoops he was finally able to get his money back.

After hearing that story I promised myself to just buy once, cry once and go new. That way I know for sure it's not stolen or other hidden issues.

Although I would be completely honest if I ever sold my X495, as I was putting it away one day, I noticed the hours read 499.8 and clicked over to 499.9. I sat there for a minute or so thinking I'd watch it click over to an even 500. Then I thought, this is silly, I'll just watch it happen next time I use the machine. The thing is, next time, when I turned it on the meter read 99.9 - the 4 had disappeared! Then, when it came time to click over to 500, the hour meter went back to 0.0! Since then, I've put another 700+ hours on it, with the hour meter reading just the 700-odd.

Your tractor is increasing in value every time you are using it.

Well, after 30 years in the legal field, I can pretty comfortably disagree with you.
I agree with your points on what would result in a judgment in court. If the dependent claimed fraud, which he has said in this thread, he would need to PROVE the fraud. Just saying that he thinks the dealer intentionally misrepresented the tractor doesn't prove anything. The damages would be quite easy to prove at some level. The plaintiff doesn't need to prove the absolute maximum loss unless that is what they were asking for. If they had customers look at a tractor and then change their mind due to hearing about the "fraud", that would be easily provable damages. A few people doing that could raise the damages quite quickly. Then you have the fact that many jurisdictions don't require exact damages to file. In our court system, all you have to do is file for damages under $25k or over 25k. You could later specify that you were asking for 10 million but to get the ball rolling, you check one of the 2 boxes I mentioned above.
If there is proof that the dealer committed a fraud that us one thing and, you would be correct. If the dealer listed the hours displayed, THAT isn't fraudulent unless he knew abd it could be proven that he knew it was inaccurate.
If I'm not mistaken, he posted the listing for the tractor which would list the seller.
Finally, I started reading the post from page one and I am commenting on the posts as I come to them. I don't know the final outcome.
Care to point out anything I said that was inaccurate in this comment?

If you have read the posts since page one you would have found out in #246 that the issue has been resolved.
