Clean it up with an angle grinder and a cup brush. Apply a light coating of oil or grease and give it a try. The yi=uck on the PTO shaft is the problem

If that doesn't work, run a file down the PTO splines to take off any burrs.

It looks like the OP slid the pto yoke onto the spline ok but the yoke casting is hitting the raised part of the bearing housing on the 8n. I would just grind down the pto yoke the small amount it would take to let it connect.

Put an over run clutch on there first, should fit fine, then put your mover pto shaft on. Safer too!

I apoligize, I mis-understood what the OP's problem was , I didn't realize the problem was it not sliding on far enough before it hit's the flange on the tractor, maybe the pto shaft extender is the best best if you don't want to grind some off of either or both sides which I would hate to do.

NO 8N tractor should ever be using the PTO without an over run clutch... it's just plain dumb not to for safety reasons.

Most here like Eureka Fluid Film as PTO lube. I prefer wax chain lube in an aerosol can.
What I use actually and in my case it serves 2 purposes. The PTO stub as well as the drive chains on my round bailer.

Shaft extenders can cause problems with vibration and shaking of the pto shaft. If needed you can get shaft size adapters that are not extenders.
Interesting comment Lou.. The shaft extender I have is split with a hex cap screw so you can actually clamp it tight to the stub and eliminate any vibration / slop.

If it’s something with enough inertia to “drive” the tractor after you depress the clutch, I would agree; However, not all implements will do so and there are a number of stationary PTO uses as well. For them, they are not required.

One can also go from one size shaft to another via the over run clutch but it’s also very easy to swap out the shafts on the 8N’s.
