JD 790
Good battery + a portable jump box. I hear a click, and everything goes off the panel. Tried at the starter and it would turn sometimes and sometimes not.... just clicked and all panel lights gone. I have tried to remove the starter (removed the 2 bolts) and the starter will not come out. I am thinking that it is stuck on the fly wheel, and I will need to rock it in gear to make the engine move and maybe the starter will come loose. Any ideas.... send them PLS.

I had a 790 I bought new in 2000. Sold it back in 2010. If I remember correctly, the ground cable was attached to the sheet metal in the front, by the battery, which was prone to rust out and it never provided that solid of a ground. I believe I moved the lug ring going to chassis over to the engine and landed it there, which fixed all of the non-start/ power dropping out on start issues. Don't forget to cleanup the lug, as it probably is corroded on the bottom side. If it is too corroded, cut the lug off, strip back the cable and attach a new lug. Make sure you remove any paint on your new connection point before attaching the lug.

Welcome to TBN
You have some good suggestions there, that will likely solve your problem. If cleaning the connections fail, get that battery load tested as it may be giving you false information showing 12v under no load.

Cleaned all the connections, had the starter tested and it was good, installed starter and new battery and the tractor turns. NOW, it will not start. It turns just fine but no start. I loosened one of the injector tube and nothing. It is getting fuel to the filter. It might be the injection pump solenoid but the pump was rebuilt 2 years ago. Is there a way to prime the injection pump?

Crack the injector lines at the injectors. Crank until fuel runs out. Retighten and try again. If no fuel runs out, ensure the fuel shut off solenoid is getting power. You should be able to hear it click when you turn the key on.

I could be wrong, but I believe the yanmar diesel in the 790 is self priming.

Does the 790 have the solenoid fuel shutoff like my JD 4105?
My 4105 has to have a PERFECT battery or it will not pull that fuel shutoff solenoid.

My 4105 cranks, but, the engine gets no fuel.
Jump it from a strong battery, it starts right up.

AND the solenoid could be bad,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

You might have a thermistor in the solenoid wiring. They sometimes go bad.

it is self priming but I do not hear a click off the solenoid. If I pull it out - does fuel spills out? It has 3 wires to it... how do i bench test it? Thank you

If you take it out, the tractor will start,,,
BUT,, the engine has no way to shut off!!

No, no fluids should spill out. Before you pull it, take a meter and see if it is getting voltage when you turn the key on. If no voltage, then it could be a blown fuse, a bad wire, bad connector or a bad connection on the ignition switch......or, a bad ground connection.

No “click” check the thermistor first. They have been known to fail. It should be located behind the fuse block. It’s ten dollar item. Easy to access and replace.

The solenoid engages the injection pump. It does not involve the fuel supply directly.

Just look up jd thermistor. Lots of information.
