Axles? So the lines went slack every time he went over a bump? You'd think the rebound from a bump in the road would create enough force that a strap tied over the body from an axle might create enough tension to crease the bodywork.

As I understand it nothing was tied over the body of his truck. Tied to tied axles and/or underbody.

The few old photos I've seen appeared to tie the pipe or lumber to the front and rear bumpers.

Poor load placement, I think.

Not sure why people tend to put loads too far forward on trailers. But do understand why trailer manufacturers keep putting the axles farther and farther back.

People have stopped thinking.

Not overloaded, it's wrongly displaced. Who puts the heavy cement bags fully forwards and not over the trailer axles.

Obviously someone who has no comprehension of proper load distribution.
I always thought that anyone who pulls a utility trailer, flat bed or enclosed box type, should have to take and pass a course on proper loading techniques and get an endorsement on their drivers license.
At least then they wouldn't have an excuse for doing some of those stupid things.
