Mine went up this year, but I attribute most of that to having bought a newer vehicle.
I sold a 2016 mod Hyundai, bought a 2022 Toyota highlander platinum model and my rates dropped.

Yeah but the agonizing commercials...(!)
I might consider jumping ship if my dollars were going to pay for that advertising

Why they all have commercials and your gonna pay for something else outings, dinner parties etc.... My wife's work wastes a boat load of money on crap like that...

I had Allstate for over 20 years, then switched to Liberty Mutual for about 6 years. After they replaced my roof due to hail damage, they started jacking up my home snd auto policies, so I went back to Allstate. Their prices are competitive and they haven’t increased rates much in the past few years, and I have always been impressed with their service. One example: in 2002 we were living in northern Arizona and my family was evacuated for 11 days because we lived in the vicinity of a large wildfire. After returning, we had no damage at all. In about a week, we received a call from Allstate asking us if we wanted to file a claim for temporary living expenses. We weren’t planning on doing that and were surprised that Allstate basically asked us to file a claim. They were monitoring the situation in our area. Their service is amazing and has kept me as a loyal customer.

We have a different problem and that is all the companies leaving California plus the ones staying are not writing new policies in many cases...

Insurance issue are becoming a real problem for home buyers...

A friend sold his place of 32 years and was at 3k with zero loss history...

The buyers could only get a split policy with fire under a State Plan and liability with a regular carrier priced at 11k subject to review.

He has a county fire hydrant on the property...

I remember friends raving about how good Liberty was for auto so I asked and learned they suspended...

Harford and USAA just joined the long list of carriers no longer writing and State Farm departure sent shock waves.

My carriers say they could not write me today... all the advertising from Farmers, State Farm, Gieco, etc has vanished.

I've thought about being self insured for fire and keep liability if it comes down to it.

We are Farmers and we don't want you or Like a good neighbor State Farm us there until you want to do business, etc.

I have always wondered why insurance companies don’t take a smarter approach in rural wildfire prone areas? A reasonable approach would have the insurance company inspect the property in fire prone forest and brush areas. They should quote a very high price for properties that don’t thin trees, brush, or mow tall grass. Then explain how much of a price reduction is possible if they do the necessary work to reduce hazardous fuels. Your choice: thick forests and brush = high insurance cost, reduced hazards = much lower cost.

Well, with all the regulations in that state and the cost of doing business. why would /should they stick around ?

so you would self insure for fire, which means it your place burns down, you pay to rebuild ? Don't know if I would want to shoulder that expense, especially in CA.

I have been with one company for over 40 years. It’s a big national company and I feel comfortable continuing to use it.

I may not have the most inexpensive policies, but I feel that I am very safe with them and having stayed with one company for that long, I feel that they probably will not rape me and will treat me right if I ever do really need it! I also have a $2 million umbrella policy to boot.

All that being said, who really ever knows!

What choice if not obtainable...

Growing up knew lots that cancelled insurance when mortgage paid...

Back then people were not so worried about someone tripping and sueing as today.

Homes in the city with high capacity fire hydrants and two fire stations within 1/2 mile are getting turned down.

Its all about how much risk you are willing to accept on a paid off property.

I'm fully fire sprinklered with boxed soffits and clay tile roof and triple pane windows and significant defensible space...

My grandfather sold insurance and he said it was to make the unbearable bearable.

If you could spread the risk the numbers might pencil out different.

Most here do not have earthquake insurance yet quake risk is real.
