You Know You Are Old When

I was texting my son the other day...

How many here know what hand free push ups are?
Looks brutal. I've just worked my way up to 20 normal, and now we're supposed to do this torture? :ROFLMAO:

Speaking of people talking too fast, many young people at fast food joints or really anywhere they work, seem to always talk like they're on speeders (amphetamines). I tell them to slow down, it's not a race and that my ears don't listen as fast as they used to. Actually, I'm deaf in my left ear, and background noise makes it hard to sort out a voice in a noisy environment.

Back when I was flying, on a few occasions I would have to tell ATC personnel to slow down the speed and you'll only have to repeat the clearance once.

Isn't that a type of brassier?
I'll have to tell me son that one LOL

Now a push up incorporated in the Military. I thought he was yanking my chain, then he sent me a couple clips on them. They're also called hand release push ups.

When I gave it some thought, it's actually a better way to gain strength.

I have a set of Bose noise canceling headphones that make it easier to understand the TV. They eliminate background noise from the house, and the sound clarity is better than the TV speaker.
I have added sound bars to my TV’s. A huge improvement over the tiny often down-firing TV speakers. Vizio makes some good modest priced ones, as do others. I strongly recommend the ones with HDMI connections so the TV remote can can control it.

For the last decade or so I've only used electric chainsaws. However, for a project I've decided to resurrect an older chainsaw.

Anyway, in another thread someone suggested that rather than fixing an old saw I should just hop onto Amazon and purchase a new one for $400 or so.

Anyway, one thought spirals into another, and I watched some reviews of the new saws.

The new saws are all designed to sit on the ground and stick the foot into the handle to start.

I have only done drop starting of gas saws. And the handle of the old McCulloch is curved, so sticking the foot into the handle won't work. Plus I usually like to give a little throttle when starting.

Then again, this thing is a BEAST. I don't think I could safely hold it with one hand and control it's movement.

I can understand why the concept of drop starting has fallen out of favor, but it is also a reminder of changing times.

I have NO idea why anyone would buy a chainsaw from Amazon!

The only people I've ever seen put their foot in the saw to start it, learned from working for the Federal Government.

The only time I ever saw my father injure himself was when he cut his leg while drop starting his XL12.
The only time I will do it is when the saw is flooded; then I am holding the rear handle so that I can hold the throttle open.

Well, perhaps a good question.

A new Stihl saw is $1500. A new FarmerTec saw is $350 + the chain and blade.

I don't need a larger than 18" saw very frequently. So, perhaps one doesn't need to buy the best available for an infrequently used saw as long as one can get the job done.
