Question for those who live in California

California is one of the 38 States without Estate Taxes. NC is also in the 38 States without Estate Taxes. The Federal law on Estate Taxes starts after 13.6 million. A married couple can stretch the 13.6 million Federal Estate Tax limit to 27 million with the proper estate structuring.
But California has an Exit Tax which requires reporting of all assets anywhere in the world should you want to no longer be a California resident...

It's design target is very wealthy but in time these things once on the books can be changed/modified... just look at income tax.

I don’t think many people qualify for the California exit tax.

“The Wealth and Exit Tax would apply to individuals or businesses that have been full-time residents of California and hold wealth over $50 million; it would tax 1 percent of wealth up to $1 billion and 1.5 percent of wealth over $1 billion at the time of their exit.”

But this is what was said about income tax and look what happened.

If states can charge an exit tax on worldwide holdings it seems to fly against the freedom of movement.

Some say this is the Elon Musk Tax

If true targeting one individual not breaking the law raises many issues...

Just my ramblings.

Again... many things start in California but seldom limited to California.

California actually encourages law breakers because the fine is much less than a permit.

In San Francisco it is a violation to double park and the city requires a $320 obstruction permit for a moving van...

The violation for double parking is $108 dollars...

Are you working my classmate Mr Hanks...?

Hard working guy selling sodas at the ball game, waiting tables, focused on drama for education...

Last I talked to him he said he was heading to New York... sink or swim...

Funny, because he is a Bay Area native... no silver spoon for Tom and graduated from public High School in Oakland and earned his diploma at community college but skipped graduation leaving for New York...

The difference between a permit and a Parking Ticket is they can tow and impound your vehicle for illegal parking. I am sure California is like other places, being towed away is not cheap. Also most places also charge some outlandish per day storage fees for impounded vehicles.

I've been trying to get abandoned cars removed during pandemic and it never happened... talking several years and even with multiple tickets...

Towing a full.size moving truck isn't something I have ever seen the city do and they are never unattended... I suppose it's possible?

As a matter of course delivery companies like UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL double park on routes all day... there is no avoiding it if deliveries are to be made...

I guess anything is possible but according to SF it's State Law that regulates Max fines for things like double parking whereas permits have their own formula to be based on the cost to provide the service...

It is very had to get Law Enforcement remove vehicles from Private Property. It is also hard to get a governmental entity to collect parking ticket fines or enforce penalties on private property. A Private Property owner can call wreckers and tow the vehicle if signage is posted warning if a vehicle is parked without the owners permission it will be towed.
