Been hitting this thing for hours with an air hammer and got it this far.

Now it's stopped. Won't move anymore. I can move it up and down by hand but it stops at this point. When it stops, I can move it back and forth. Almost like it's against another stop or lock.

I don't have a goose neck trailer to pop it out.

What am I missing?

Hitch came with the truck so who knows how long it's been in.

Is there a release on the side of the truck??? I looked at a few videos, bigger hammer might be the answer. 🤪

I guess you looked at it from underneath? mine has a safety lock under the post.
I don't see any other lock besides the main release but that's what it feels like.

There is a not a lock other than the pull handle under the fender well. I have had some rust and corrosive make it difficult to pop out by hand from sitting too long. Soak it with PB Blaster around the edges and let it sit for a while. Then it should pop out, especially by hitting it from below with a short piece of pipe and a hammer. Clean it up before putting it back in. I leave mine out rather than turning it upside down when it is not needed for towing.

From the debris in the bed you may have a small rock causing issues as well.

Maybe you can pop it out using a jack and 2" piece sq channel or stout pipe from underneath?

Here is a couple of pics of mine. You can see that you don't have far to go to get it out. You should be able to see the round hole at the base from below, that is wiring under mine visible from above.

Maybe you peened and edge over on the bottom beating on it?
That's kinda what I am thinking plus maybe the top of the receiver could be also. It's a solid metal on metal when it stops.

Like I said, I can move it that far by hand. Doesn't make sense if I can move it by hand and it wiggles a hair when it stops but I've seen crazier crap.

Soak it good tonight with WD - 40 or PB Blaster or any other penetrating lubricant and you will be able to get it out tomorrow.

Tap it once in a while to get the lubricant to work its way into the rust.

Well, it could be less dramatic if using a Hi-Lift when it does come loose. With something to spread the load under the base of the Hi-Lift, of course.

I'd also smack it from four sides both before it's under tension and while it is. Maybe also smack yourself (lightly) if using WD-40 instead of something that works.

Don't use wd40. I generally use mouse milk.

Like I said, I can move it smoothly by hand until the very end where it hits. Don't think it's rust. I'm thinking the receiver itself may be burled or something. Who knows what the past owner did.

I'll get it out and then clean up both the ball and receiver

I think getting peened might be the issue. If you drive it back in, can you dress the edges with a file?

I hate how these balls get stuck. I just had to get under mine the other week to drive out the ball that had been sitting stored inverted.

Got a bottle JacK, steel bar, chain, bolt same size as hole in receiver and a huge block of wood? Fashion yourself a lifting device and pull the receiver up and out.

I have always greased each side of the square part on the ball that slides down into the bed and have never had an issue with mine being stuck, I have used never seize, oxide inhibitor and plain old grease and all have kept the ball from becoming seized.

That makes entirely too much sense. I don't know why I haven't done that before now. :p

It's not rust. I'm about 1/8th of an inch from coming out. I hit it today for about 2 hours with air hammer. She ain't moving. When it's at the upper most point, I can wiggle it. I can push it down and pull it up by hand with no effort. When it stops, it's a metal on metal sound.

Top of receiver still looks good.

Doesn't make sense
