Understand the motors were assembled with debris in crank. That is not fixable without new motors.

As an aside, Toyota's are unobtanium here in Ontario Canada. Dealers have no new stock. They expect suckers (I mean buyers) to give them $2K non-refundable deposits and wait 2 years for delivery on a vehicle with unknown model year, unknown options and unknown final price.

No thank you Toyota, go F*CK yourselves - you are losing repeat customers. Sorry I don't sign blank cheques over to scammers (dealers, stealers, whatever). I don't approve of your new post-covid business model telling Canadians to go bend over even further than during pre-covid times.

Vote with your wallets. Stop supporting sleazy vendors and shady business models.
While I definitely share your opinion on the company, I'm a bit surprised the dealers near you have no inventory. One nearest me seems to have a very full lot. In fact, I attributed the rash of relatively new tacomas I see around on them being about the only less-than-fullsize truck that dealers did have on the lot.

Local Toyota dealer has just a smattering of new inventory. The SUVs I looked at had a $5000 "market adjustment" added onto MSRP, probably dealer added, IIRC.
Here Toyota dealerships have empty show rooms. Pathetic. I can drive to Buffalo to buy a car on the lot but it's grief to try and import it into Canada.

BTW I can buy a brand new Corolla made in Cambridge Ontario cheaper in Hawaii than I can either find or buy one in southern Ontario. Something is wrong around here and it's called "free trade"

Maybe find a vehicle made in Canada? My 2003 Honda Pilot was made up there and it was a great vehicle.

Probably getting tougher to do business in Canada.

Toyota perfected the naturally aspirated engine around 2018. However the EPA was not content.

Now Toyota has to use turbos for the emissions, plus it gives a lot of power out of a small cubic inch motor. Toyota will have to go through the growing pains of turbos just like Ford did in 2011. They will get there.

I was thinking of replacing my 1988 Toyota ranch truck with a new Tacoma. The engine is in a Toyota, but the engine was designed by Yamaha. It will be a good engine and it makes a lot of power per cubic inch. It will need a few years before it becomes just like all Toyota engines...reliable as a clock.

Thanks for starting this thread, I was seriously considering a Tundra to "replace" my 2002 Ford F350 diesel dually.
I would not buy a new Tundra. My employer ran GM products for the first 10 years I worked here, then switched to Tundras because experience taught us that generation Toyota was indeed bulletproof. The latest generation truck is a different animal, great for mall cruising but not so much off road. It doesn't even have anything on front to hook a tow strap to if you get stuck.
The last truck they bought was a 3/4 ton GMC in hopes of avoiding the perpetual front end and transmission issues prevalent in the 1/2 ton.
I am currently sitting in my 2019 (?) company truck with the 5.7, and plan to run it until it turns 200k miles, which should happen just about the same time I get done here.

Foreign member. Is a Tacoma a rebadged Hilux or a US specific vehicle?

The US version of the Tacoma is a US specific vehicle.

I wish we could get a Hilux here...
