Question for those who live in California

ICE every 2 year emission check vehicles 1976 to within 5 years of current model year.

So if you buy a new car you don't have to take it in for emissions testing the first 5 years BUT you must pay a in lieu of not testing to the state for the privilege of not testing...

I have collector ICE cars licensed and insured and several are old enough to predate odometers...

My guess is horseless carriage and historic vehicle plated might get a pass?
Currently all pre 1977 vehicles are smog exempt in CA. Smog exempt eye candy attached

I have two year model 1976 vehicles and both require smog to renew so I went non-op for now.

I went to Sacramento so many times... it was rolling 25 years and then rolling 30 years and then frozen at 1976 unless it's changed again.

Yep, 1976 and newer get tested. And if you're in a strict testing county like most in the bay and LA areas, it's got to not only meet the limits on the test but it's got to have unmodified OE equipment.Try getting smog parts for a late '70s car. Or finding a tech who can recognize what parts should be on a '70s car (actually that's probably a feature not a bug). You could put aftermarket EFI on and make it run much cleaner but it's got to have the original crappy carbs to meet the letter of the law.

While it doesn't help regular cars, if you build a kit car you can title it as a pre-'67 under SB100 regs and have no smog requirements at all.

Why would an EV need a smog check, during which the odometer could be checked?
Does Calif. have a safety inspection? Brakes, lights, tires, rust, etc. would apply to all vehicles.

Some fast-food restaurants have either closed or scaled back in California following the $20 minimum wage mandate

No. I kind of wish they did. When I am stopped at a light I sometimes look at the tires of the cars around me. I see a lot of partly bald tires that have been run under inflated or with a bad alignment.

Typically no... if a car is subject to a significant insurance damage claim I have had to have official light and brake check and selling dealers are required to inspect brakes.

California's mild climate and abundance of rust free cars is one reason for no regular inspection aside from emissions...

Any officer can cite or issue fix it ticket for things like cracker windshield, tires, tailpipe smoke, lights... etc.

Officers are again out but in 4 years hardly saw a one on traffic detail...

There are still a few counties in CA the don't require a smog check every two years. Tuolumne is one of them. The only time I need a smog check is when I buy or sell a vehicle.

Same people telling you this that paid for the creation of the Russian collusion documents and called the HB laptop a hoaks. We know know both of these were purposefully misrepresented to the American people. Time Americans open their eyes and stop swallowing this hogwash.

Plenty of hogwash from both sides of the aisle. Trouble is, way too many people tend to dismiss any news reporting that doesn't reinforce their own prejudices and/or seek out sources that do.

You should seek out both sides of any story and decide for yourself what is right and wrong. Then consider the source and decide who you want to listen to. Are you still a believer in the T russian dossier or the Russian HB laptop? Where did you get those reports from? Seems to me the ones crying misinformation the loudest are presenting it the most.
Best economy ever.

They didn't lose it, they spent it. They just can't account for what they spent it on :D

24 billion dollars /180K homeless people = $133,000 each. That's bonkers.

And still homeless, right?
I could have housed them for that but I don't have associates to bankroll, pockets to fill, bureaucracy to pad.
