Yep, 1976 and newer get tested. And if you're in a strict testing county like most in the bay and LA areas, it's got to not only meet the limits on the test but it's got to have unmodified OE equipment.Try getting smog parts for a late '70s car. Or finding a tech who can recognize what parts should be on a '70s car (actually that's probably a feature not a bug). You could put aftermarket EFI on and make it run much cleaner but it's got to have the original crappy carbs to meet the letter of the law.
While it doesn't help regular cars, if you build a kit car you can title it as a pre-'67 under SB100 regs and have no smog requirements at all.
