Good Morning,
Ct, 65 to start going to 90 or so ! Hot for the north east !

Happy Birthday Ron ! 🎂🎊🍺

How many more 98.6° bodies inhabit those same areas?
How many more cubic yards / tons asphalt & Concrete?
How much heat being extracted from inside structures?
How many acres green space trees lost?
David, well stated, I always wonder about other factors contributing to a warmer atmosphere!
She apparently had been collecting this stuff for awhile waiting to ambush me when I thought I was going to relax for a day! It made her happy and that’s a good thing.
NHBX, I know the feeling well ! Last week my wife and I struggled to remove our old mattress from the second floor and get a new purple mattress up the stairs. Took the old mattress to the dump and needed help from the attendant to remove it from my truck and put it in the assigned container!

Two of the grands over here yesterday afternoon and had a ball in the pool, until we told them they had to get out for supper ! Then our GD started with a melt down ! Fortunately the parents came over about that time and helped us deal with that ! 😉

Changed the oil in the Model A yesterday and took the old girl to the FD last night for our weekly drill ! Today I will check the trans fluid ! Not too much planned , but I will find something!

Hope all have a good day ! 🙏

Coffee is cooling in cup. 71° with clouds this morning. Heading to 89° with thunderstorms in afternoon. Back to doing weeding in gardens yesterday. Have been invited out to Coffee, Lunch and Dinner to celebrate another year less in my plan to make it to the Century mark. 18 years left to that goal.
Feeding the young.

David, lots of hype about warm temperatures here in Michigan. Mostly not happening. They forgot to warn about possible thunderstorms.

Everyone stay safe and well.

Good Morning All.
Thankful for your last trip around the sun and prayers for a great day and a bunch more trips around the sun!
Happy Birthday Ron!

Good morning! Happy Birthday Ron!!
Mid 70s heading to mid 90s, still looking for the packed weather station.
Chance of rain today.

The dentists noticed a discoloration spot in the roof of my mouth so this morning the oral surgeon will take a biopsy.

Yesterday was a productive day. The blinds were installed and the roof was washed. The blinds are controlled by a wall controller or an app. Part of the app is supposed to be voice control, haven't tried that out yet. One blind was 1/2 too wide and a new one was ordered - always something. The other 6 that did fit look very good and during the daytime you cannot see them. They need recharging once a year for their auto up and down.
Don, I pray it is not much of nothing.
We believe my daughter has a resistant strep virus. Amoxicillin did not work. Some spots can be caused by strep maybe?
My wife has Meniere's hearing loss in one ear. She has a theory that she first had a strep, then meningitis, and she's read where the meningitis can cause stuff to go wrong later on in life....

Just ordered new front brake rotors and pads, drilled and slotted, for the 1/2 ton SUV. 127,900 miles. They are pulsing badly. Local places wanted $30-40 for turning. I guess I'm old, I've had rotors turned for $12 in this millennium. If these are the oems, they made it a lot longer than the old days rotors. I had put pads on them a while back. Ordered thru Amazon.

Drew, let us know how the hearing ear pieces work out.

Sad days for Ruidoso. I have spent many vacations there. Summer and winter. Off roading and skiing. A thick ground layer of pine needles is a flame thrower waiting to happen.

I just mowed with the old Deere 180Lt rider, and the tranny is working fantastic. I can stop on a hill, and easily start back up the hill.

Pop, hope you don't get much static at town hall over your build permit. I had believed it was all settled.

Good Morning!!!! 68F @ 8:00AM. Plenty of sunshine. High 92F. Winds light and variable.

I don't have much doubt that the climate is changing; it's been changing continuously since the planet was formed. I feel very uncertain as to the cause of that change, though.

Enjoy your special day, Ron.

I'm curious to see how those blinds work out for you, Don. Still haven't purchased any window coverings at the new place.

My heart goes out to everyone that has homes in the high fire danger zones, Drew. But until the powers that be start burning those wild lands in a controlled fashion, we're gonna keep having unstoppable wildfires.

Got all the junk cleaned out from under the office trailer and the last bits of trash swept out of it, and even got the truck hitched to it without too much drama. I was worried the 2' steel stakes for the hold downs wouldn't come up out of the ground, but a 4' crowbar made easy work of it. I could have used another pair of eyes to get the thing backed down the driveway, so I lost count of the times I got out of the truck to see where it was at after moving only a few feet. The real surprise was how much interest an ad for it on Facebook Marketplace brought. So much so that I raised the price by 25% and still more inquiries come in. Most are "is this still available" with a few low balls, but a dozen or so sound legitimate. Those got replies hinting that an offer of more than the current bid would get the deal, so there's a good chance it'll be gone today.

Also placed an ad for a set of tanks and burners for gun bluing. I've had it for fifteen years without ever finding the time to use it, so it's time it found a new home.

I've also pretty much decided not to pursue wood heat at the new house, so placed an ad to sell the eight cords of bucked/split/palletized firewood. Only one response to that ad so far, in Spanish. It got deleted, as did all the low balls and "still available" ones.

Need to get after that water softener controller this morning before it gets too hot out there. Then probably get the mill ready for the trip south.

Whew, Hump Day already...

Good Afternoon RS,

Good morning to you !

Nice shot !

Thanks.

I picked off another one of the youngsters from the master bedroom yesterday afternoon.

And this morning I saw the big momma was grazing out back when I walked into the living room after getting out of bed.

So I stumbled back to the bedroom and I think I got her as well ... she headed into the woods after dancing around a bit. Will probably find her just off the edge of the lawn.

If they are in the right direction in the field, I can use my Ruger 22/250 if not pointed in the direction of any houses ! Close range the Remington 1100 20 ga works well !

I had ran out of shells with No. 9 shot when I shot the one on Monday so I've had to use double aught buck on these last two.

Something I'm not real keen on for a couple of reasons:

1. The increased potential lethality for humans ... since I'm always firing in the general direction of my neighbors, albeit on a downward trajectory into the ground.

2. Not real fond of having to pick up bloody hamburger.

There was some limited discussion back on Sunday about getting a (cheaper) break-barrel pellet gun with a scope ... which went nowhere and was shot down pretty quickly.

After the two blasts of the 12 gauge this morning while The Woman was having Her coffee, I got asked if the pellet gun would be quieter.

"Ahhh ... yeah ... by quite a bit."

Purchase now approved ... ;)

The scoop them up in the bucket and drop them on the south side of the property! The coyotes will take them away overnight !

Yeah ... not sure what all gets them here.

The buzzards will get to them eventually ... but they have to sit a bit and start stinking for them to find them.

I imagine 'coons would probably feed on them as well.

And The Woman mentioned that She saw a red fox walking up the driveway the other day.

Flies and maggots do a good job if you're not in a hurry and don't mind the stink.

The inexpensive pellet guns will not do a good job. Also one major disadvantage of 00 buck shot is the number of pellets per shot. #4's work very well in a shot gun.
The PCP air rifles will do a much better and more humane job on varmints.

Lots of chatter about temps and heat. A major item on our news tonight. And of course it’s “climate change”. Whatever that is.

I’d like to see a bit more transparency, maybe honesty vs fear mongering in the reporting. For example, the reporting cited this as being the most prolonged high temp period in 40 years in major cities. Likely true, but.
Let’s not only compare temps of today vs then but
How many more 98.6° bodies inhabit those same areas?
How many more cubic yards / tons asphalt & Concrete?
How much heat being extracted from inside structures?
How many acres green space trees lost?

Just simple comparisons for sure.
All the factors you listed, warm bodies, asphalt & Concrete, a/c, loss of trees contribute to more heat and are due to humankind.
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel *, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot

and just think about all the hot air this group is letting out.... ;) ;)

finished caulking storm door, latex caulk was drippier than i expected though maybe outside temp
has something to do with it. Now I just have to find the house trim paint can down in basement and repaint the
dark green trim.

cool bedroom and good book sounds inviting right now

67°F and .48 inches rain.

Almost back to normal here. Still need to shake cough we brought back. Sophie’s worse than mine. Guessing a combination of all the ac and allergies.

Getting resolution with LS still top of my list. Dealer never called back yesterday as promised so I will call them first thing this morning.

Replacement switch for BX came in and needs to be installed. May start outside area mowing.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

RS, why don't you switch to drip irrigation vs. soaker hoses?

In my mind at least, there are several reasons ... less complexity and fewer points of failure being a predominant one.

Another issue is our water - it's hard and has iron, calcium, and magnesium in it I believe.

But that may be an issue not only for drip emitters but for the soaker hoses as well.

Drip will put water precisely on the plants and will use FAR LESS water. When we were on a well, drip irrigation was the only way we could get the entire garden watered without running the pump dry! (100' x 300'). The way you lay out the spacing in your garden, it would be very easy to do! Drippers range from 1/2 gal to 4 gal/hr, so the amount can be adjusted specifically for the plant.

After installing drip irrigation and seeing the results... I threw out the soaker hoses! At this time, I probably have around 800-1000 ft of drip lines for the landscaping.

In the case of the soaker hose I just installed under the vertical trellis where the indeterminate tomatoes are planted:

1. It's a straight line with plants every 36" inches. Not sure on the root spread on tomatoes, but 18" doesn't seem unreasonable (assuming canopy spread = root spread)

2. The hose is installed more or less within 3" either side of the centerline.

3. A 50' soaker hose is the perfect length for a full row in our garden.

Additional data:

Our YouTube gardening girl, who we've kind of become a fan of, is in west central Ohio, just a little further south of where we are but in a very similar USDA Zone (6a vs 6b)

She makes extensive use of mulch and claims that given her/our frequent pop-up summer thunderstorms, most years she only has to water - which she hates doing - maybe once or twice per year. After seeing the difference the weedblock fabric and organic mulch makes I can absolutely believe that.

Last night I was doing some more planting, this time in the holes in the row between the Beefsteak tomatoes. There is a hole every 18" and the tomato plants are planted in every other hole.

I was using the bulb auger in the drill on the "empty holes" in between the tomato plants going down around 6" ... and, after the top 1/2 inch or so of soil, couldn't believe how moist the soil was.

Admittedly, The Woman has been watering those tomato plants in that row ... but She hasn't been watering the (up to now) empty holes in between.

So I'm thinking that it really may not take all that much water ... once we have mulch in place around all the plants. Our strawberry plants - which we have not watered at all this year and are planted in the weedblock fabric - are huge and doing very well.

The soaker hoses are about $16 a pop after rebate and have a 3 year warranty. I'm hoping covering them with straw (so they are out of the sun) will extend their life ... but only time will tell.

Ultimately, I may change my mind after seeing how things work out this year.
