That never ends well.

Sad for the 4 families involved. Truck may have had a dash cam, which the police would use for the details. I disagree with the laws allowing these UTV's to be driven on our roads. I see a bunch of them out here, in rural Iowa. With the lack of safety items they have (shoulder belts - if even used), any UTV accident will have bad results.

Most modern UTV's do have shoulder belts far as I know.
My UTV has 4 point harnesses and we always use them.

Yes, I know. They are even "smart" enough to be speed limited, if the belts aren't buckled (you can buckle up the belts, leave them behind you and drive faster...) Not good enough for road use, IMO...

Nothing else really would have helped anyway, in a T-bone crash with a semi, except not being there in the first place...

They should also require people to stop at stop signs. Not stopping often has bad results.

I see your point however the UTV isn't at fault. Most of the UTV,ATV fatalities in our state are operator error.

That didn’t help the ol 3 wheelie out. I don’t think any regulation would have stopped this. Praying for everyone involved.

There were enough errors to go around on this one. From running the stop sign, to unlawful operation of a UTV on a roadway. Operation of an UTV on a roadway without a valid drivers license. To the parents for allowing their 13-14 girls to drive the UTV on the road.

I used to have a habit rolling through stop signs. Many yrs later, and 3 near death experiences is what it took for me to knock that habit. The blind spot is real, and rolls along right where the oncoming car is. That right hand window column now gets checked and rechecked sometimes annoying those behind me, but I don't care, there will be no one coming, I'm sure of that. 5 teenagers and a jacked up pickup at 4am were killed near here a month ago, by a semi coming from the right. 3 separate fatalities, same circumstances at another intersection near here, gravel trucks and cars don't play well together. Atv w/13yr old killed and car driver rolled and injured at another, same deal, no stop, blind spot. Another intersection, car vs. cement truck, same deal. This was all stuff I learned in drivers-ed at age 15, and fortunately was able to relearn.

A local man pulled out from a rolling stop and drove under a semi-trailer traveling 35mph. He said the semi-trailer truck was behind the post and never seen it.

Motorcycles also hide behind the darnedest spots, especially door pillars. It used to be that a pickup had almost unlimited visibility, now the seats are so tall and door pillars so big, in both instances to accommodate air bags.

We have more than our fair amount of ATV/UTV accidents due ot the number of trail systems we have and the amount of tourists coming here to ride. A LARGE number of accidents are due to alcohol and/or driving to fast. Last I heard the stats, around 80% of the accidents that caused someone to go to the ER were related to drinking and driving the ATV/UTV. I personally feel a lot safer driving my UTV on the road (totally legal here) than I do riding the motorcycle on the same roads..

Electric scooters vs cars don't end well either.

There's not much detail there, it's easy to speculate.

The intersection of two county roads. Paved or dirt? Open fields or woods? Was the stop sign obscured by brush or easily visible?

I almost wore a UTV on the front of my F-450 as they came screaming around the corner of an intersection swinging wide. The roads here are dirt, there are no stop signs and visibility is low due to woods and thick brush. The posted speed limit is 35.

The new 1000 Kawasaki Mules can do 60mph, mine can do 45. Put that in the hands of a young kid and you're asking for trouble. The implication here is that the driver was male and probably showing off for the two girls. Maybe, maybe not.

I restrict my grandkids from driving on the road without an adult. And it is legal here to drive on the roads but you must be 14 or older and UTVs are supposed to stay under 35mph. My land is undeveloped and I have trails, I encourage them to stay home.
