If it calls for GL-4, do not use GL-5.The book says API-GL-4, gear oil, 80W...Is this the same stuff? All I can find is 80-90 GL-5.
So what about the stuff OP is using? I have an HST alsoIf it calls for GL-4, do not use GL-5.
Not as common, but still available.
You have an HST and the manual says to use regular gear oil?So what about the stuff OP is using? I have an HST also
It's HST, forward and backward pedal. This is why I'm confused. Thank you for helping by the way. I recently bought this and theres no fluid on the sightglass, I need to add or change it.You have an HST and the manual says to use regular gear oil?
Or is it for the front axle, not the transmission?
Well, now there's two of us that are confused. I don't even understand why they want GL-4 in the axle instead of GL-5.It's HST, forward and backward pedal. This is why I'm confused. I did add a couple more pictures, It does say the transmission is hydraulic+mechanical.Well, now there's two of us that are confused. I don't even understand why they want GL-4 in the axle instead of GL-5.
Anyway, take a whiff of what's in there now. Gear oil smells nothing like hydraulic fluid.
I used the same stuff in OP's pic. Never saw it in the sight glass and ended up overfilling it, I put in about 3 gallons of fluid. Do you know about how much extra these things hold? thanksi just used the same fluid in the axle, it differs over the years based on the manuals
be careful, emax and max are 2 completely different machines, I can't speak to the emax.I used the same stuff in OP's pic. Never saw it in the sight glass and ended up overfilling it, I put in about 3 gallons of fluid. Do you know about how much extra these things hold? thanks
