In spite of all of the second guessing, I could see that tractor loading - runaway happening to many of us. I try to only load on flat ground.

He could have also gone forward to bring the back of the truck back onto the ground.
coulda, shoulda, didn't.
It's easy in hindsight.
You have moments to react and sometimes you're not sure what's going on.
Even the most talented athletes repeat and repeat moves so that when they are in the heat of the game the reaction/move is automatic.
How do you prepare for what happened there?
Maybe a few of us would have reacted better.
Hopefully most of us would have prepared better by putting jack stands under the back of the trailer and blocked the wheels. I kinda doubt it though.
I'm betting a good number of us would have been doing the walk of shame and calling a tow truck and insurance company.🫣
Well, maybe not the know it alls🤡, but the rest of us.

^ This. I've been in a similar situation once, and it's scary the way your mind can leap to the wrong conclusion about what's actually happening.

It's likely the rear wheels of the truck never left the ground, but just got light enough to lose their hold on that hill. The driver of the tractor probably assumed the parking brake on the truck had failed, and had no idea it was only rolling because of temporary weight distribution. In that case, bailing probably was his best move, in the half second he had to make that choice.

Years and years ago my dad had a small excavation buisiness.

I got pulled out of school one day to go help my dad. The message was pretty cryptic.

Anyway I drive to where I'm told and all I see is the back of his trailer sticking out of the woods.

He neglected to lock the truck in 4 low when he went to load the mini x .

He saved the trackoe bought lost the truck and trailer down the embankment.

That's something that always stuck with me.

I'm the only one to hook up anything I'm towing.

And I always chalk the downhill side of the front tires.

Yes, it is very easy to have that happen if nobody ever told you about it or you never witnessed it. Once you know, there is no excuse to not do something like support the rear of the trailer with stands, like I always did. Which is why the moment the video started, I knew what was coming: because I knew. I'd read about how it could happen here on TBN and that changed my approach immediately. But you don't know what you don't know...until you do. Often the hard way.

Hope he doesn’t need those brakes anytime soon…….

At the very end of the video the poor guy runs right into a tree branch. Talk about adding insult to injury. Or in this case, adding injury to insult.

I wonder how he loaded that bucket up front of the trailer without this happening then. I also notice that he had the emergency flashers going on the tractor. So, the guy was at least trying to be safe.

That’s one of the nice things about a site like this. We can read, pay attention, and have a good chance of learning from other people mistakes.
