I think with your Y, it's a little more involved then just the mailbox. I have to seek a lot of rural addresses in areas I don't know with my job, so I'm constantly using Google Maps.

Even when the mail boxes are all on the same side of the road, Google Maps will tell me if the place I'm looking for is on the opposite side of the road from the mailbox.
That actually mostly solves it. The Tesla screen always correctly displays my car's location on the map and parked at the actual address. It is just that the navigation when speaking gives the other direction. It does use the travel lines to the wrong side of the road too.
Hyundai seems to be on a good path with EVs

,

It is great that Hyundai and Kia are really stepping up their EV's, That new Ionic 5 N race model is very impressive as well. Pretty Cool looking car as a bit of 80's throwback Modernized.

I would chose some of the Kia EV 6 GT line interior over the model Y's but I really like the Tesla seats. Long term reliability and Safety, well... all owners of the different brands are living it as the history is written. Time will tell.

Taking no sides and likely some may say this report is biassed in some way.

EV owners spend about $300 less on maintenance than their ICE peers in five years ($4,246 to $4,583).

Interesting article but the maintenance cost difference should be. Each oil change can easily cost $80.
Using 15,000 miles/ yr that could approach close to $200/yr.

My key take-aways:

"EVs cost consumers an average of $65,202 during this time period, while ICE vehicles cost $56,962."

and

"EVs lose an average of $43,515 in value; ICE vehicles depreciate by $27,883."

It seems depreciation is the largest single factor in total cost of ownership, swamping the maintenance savings. I expected EV depreciation would be worse than ICE, emerging technology in an improvement phase always depreciates faster than old technology in a stable phase, but I hadn't expected the difference to be so extreme.

I'm surprised they found the cost of maintenance is so close. Only $300 less for the EV versus ICE? So if ICE is $4200 - $4600, that means EV cost is 93% of ICE maintenance cost. Of course, they cite tires as the major contributor to that, with EV taking more expensive tires, on average.

Bottom line, EV's have a lower cost of ownership than ICE's, except when you need to purchase them and sell them!

Depends on when you bought your EV. I bought my Y after steep discounts my Musk and of course the tax incentives (fed and state) made it a screaming deal ($40K).
Another person on the forum bought a Rivian? at an extreme discount.
My GM Bolt I bought in 2022 new, cost me $26K in the end.
Yes there were people who bought the Y 2 years ago at $70k and lost value when the car was lowered in price by Musk. Others buy the over priced foreign brand EV's.
If you are smart and buy your EV wisely the article you cite is not applicable except for saving in maintenance and fuel cost.

Cost of 5 quarts Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil $25.
Oil filter $5.
Cost me $30 to change the oil in our cars, certainly not $80.

Yes the purchase date on the Model Y's made All the difference.

I paid 56500 + tax and the delivery fee.

A low mile 2023 MYP can probably be bought for about 40- 44K today. Thinking that is a pretty significant amount of depreciation. That $7500 tax incentive really does change the numbers. If including it. ~49K - 44k is only about a 5k-8k loss in one year.

Without the tax break and Tesla massively dropping the price in January of 2023 buying the 70K version back just a year earlier would have been truly brutal in $$ losses.

Buying after the Tesla price drop and tax incentive has made it not too bad. I do agree that these tax incentives are not really fair, but agree with Grumpy that taking advantage of a legal tax break when it is available is just part of paying the lowest legal tax a person can.

Any New vehicle purchase is never an "Investment" and not a way to build wealth.
It is a great want fulfillment later in life though. Same as buying a Hemi Cuda or Restored first gen Bronco etc.

True I was looking at the diesel truck oil filter change, filter about $12 12 quarts T-6 Shell about $60 so $72
Not bad at all.

$80 is for people who cannot turn a wrench. Like... One wrench
honestly though it's not just turning a wrench, and you know it:

0. (once) buy appropriate funnel, collection pan, jack, jack stands, car lift, whatever you're going to use to get under the car that's got 6-7" of clearance
1. buy oil & filter, gloves
2. get car in position and raise it so you can get under it, hopefully you've got a good spot for this, lots of people don't; get oil collection in place
3. "turn a wrench" Like... One wrench, to remove oil drain plug
4. turn another wrench, like, an oil filter wrench, to remove oil filter
5. make a mess, probably
6. wait just a bit
7. "turn a wrench" Like... One wrench, to put the oil drain plug back in place
8. turn another wrench, after putting a bit of oil on the gasket of the oil filter
9. fill car with appropriate amount of oil
10. take the used oil to the recycler

You know, for a lot of people, $80 is worth it. Some people don't have flat ground to work on their cars, or they live in an apartment or otherwise aren't allowed to work on their cars where they live.
