I've found 99% of my squeaks and groans are the steering rams not being lubed enough. Lube the heck out of them every 8 hours or sooner if dusty. Resolved it for me several times.

Mowing thick grass with the brush cutter is my most heat intensive task.

More dust, more grease and lube.

Are you supposed to lubricate the actual piston rod? Super Lube? Dry lube? Spray, grease?

No. I lube both sides of the balls on both ends and wiggle/twist them around a few times to get a thorough coating. Super Lube or white lithium grease if I'm out of that. Every 8 hrs minimum. But usually more often.

Oh ok, i'll step up the frequency on that.

To be clear, I do the steering rams, the balls on the FEL arms, the QA cylinder, the lift cylinders, the curl/dump cylinder, and I try to grease the center pivot joints top and bottom fairly often. There's also a joint on each end of the rod that's under the tunnel cover.

Mine is a 2001 model with a treadle cable, so there are three zerks on the pedal assembly as well. I don't know how the hydraulic treadle is set up on the newer models.

Anyhow, grease is the word!

I would suggest that you try to spray the lube at the top of the gap on top of the pin inside the bushing. (End of the green arrow above) The mount is a bolt in a bushing in an eye. The inner bolt/bushing bearing area is often missed. I didn't realize that it was there for many years until I had a persistent squeak.

I use Super-lube synthetic for these joints, sometimes with PTFE, sometimes, not.

All the best,

Peter

I think mines an '01 as well. #16312. Purchased January '03. Anywho, I've got the 3 zerk treadle.

My top center pin seems to be shooting grease out of a weep hole instead of greasing. Is there a procedure for pulling this pin out? Like shore up both halves first? I've got a part# in the manual here of HB075X318 - 3/4" -16 x 3 1/8" Hex Bolt(Special). Is this a PT part#?

Also my manual shows a lube point location B, each side of the lift arm hinge-at frame. There's no zerks there, is that correct?

Could you please post a few photos, as they would help a lot to make sure that we are all on the same page.

If your top center pin is your rollover, I think it should have two zerks, or at least my 1445 does.

All the best,

Peter
