I am sitting on the fence. I am waiting for the new 700-800 mile batteries with a 10-20 charge time.

Toyota plans to have solid-state batteries with a range of up to 750 miles in their vehicles in 2027 or 2028:

  • Development: Toyota is working on solid-state batteries that can store enough energy to go 750 miles before needing to recharge.

  • Charging: The batteries are expected to be able to recharge in around 10 minutes.

  • Production: Toyota plans to start making solid-state batteries in 2027, but initial production numbers will be small.

  • Mass production: Toyota plans to ramp up production and achieve mass production by 2030.

  • Partnership: Toyota is working with oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan to develop and mass produce the batteries.

  • Location: Toyota plans to build solid-state batteries in commercial quantities at its Teiho plant in Japan's Aichi prefecture.

  • Impact: Toyota's solid-state batteries could help speed up the transition from fossil-fuelled cars to electric vehicles.
Toyota's plans for solid-state batteries may have been delayed in the past, so the exact timing of their availability may not be set in stone yet.

Don't hold your breath. "New breakthrough technologies!" such as this are announced every day. None have ever panned out.

8 years or so ago Tesla was criticized by the Know It All Do Nothing Pundits for not doubling range every 18 months as called for by Moore's Law.

No frunk. Battery housed there
For the equivalent money of a Tesla Y, why would anyone buy another EV brand like this?
Needing the engine bay to house a battery is so 20th century.

Because different people like different things? Also, some people like seeing dealer and service network… which only one really has. This is a huge selling point with tractors, so autos would be no different

From the article:
Another exciting development for Ioniq 5 owners is that they will soon have access to Tesla’s MagicDock chargers and Supercharger network,

Other brands know that the big advantage to Tesla is the supercharging network.

I own a GM Bolt EV in addition to my Tesla Y. The Bolt is great and serves it purpose. For the price I paid new ($26k) it really shines.
But the Tesla Y far outpaces the Bolt in comfort, styling, and technology. Not even close.
If you are paying close to the same price as the Tesla Y, it would be a mistake to not buy the EV that has set the standard since 2012.

None of the people mentioned in the article went from a Tesla Y to the Korean EV.

Your opinion is that it’s a mistake. Everyone has an opinion… If my wife thinks the car is more comfortable to drive… and wants it… is it really a mistake? Not for her.

If she didn't test drive different brands of EV's, yes it could be a mistake.

Just the buying process alone for the Y was the best experience I've had. No scummy salesmen or dealerships to deal with. Painless buying and financing process.

Sorry I meant the 18" tall side wall tires and extra ground clearance, more suspension travel, and also a center screen. Maybe a softer ride as well. Yes the Hyundai gives up a huge amount of usable space. Not saying I would trade the Y for it ( I would Not) but exterior styling wise, Not sure the Tesla wins that contest especially from the rear view. I Like the inset square headlights of the Hyundai design. What do I know I owned two Rabbits at one time.
No argument on the overall tech, but Hyundai and Kia are learning quickly. The battery replacement cost, Supercharger network and availability alone would steer me to Tesla.

I don't know who the "several people" are but looking at the design at the Hyundai, it's fugly.
too many buttons and knobs inside and not clear if there is a frunk

Car buying has never really bothered me. Like home buying. I know what I want, I know what I'll pay. They say yes or no. If yes, I hand them a check. If no, I move on. I don't ascribe a moral value to someone in sales. I also don't ask them to educate me on what I want, because they don't know me or my family, or our needs.
They list a price, and I choose whether or not I'll pay it. The power only lies with me. There is absolutely no emotion involved. Some people put emotion into such temporal and earthly things

I'm curious to see one in real life, and what the changes were.

I spent some time at the Hyundai dealer when we purchased my wife's SanteFe.

While bored, I rifled through an ionic that they had in the showroom.

It was pretty sporty looking if I remember correctly.

This relatively short video talks how Cyber truck is already out selling all other EV pick-ups combined. I was shocked to six on my recent 2500 mile road trip.

Tesla competition can only offer less for more and have no way to change that reality.
