Another F.U.D. article.

Good thing 98% of my charging is done at home.

A surprising amount of electricity is lost during the charging process, and some models are much worse than others, according to a new study by the German automobile group. Testing over 90 electric cars currently on the market, ADAC found that, on average, 14.5% of the electricity used at charging stations never even makes it to the car’s batteries.

It took 50,000 gallons of water to put out Tesla Semi fire in California, US agency says

"

I did a quick little bit of digging, and am surprised that "let it burn" still seems to be the preferred method of dealing with these BEV fires. Of course, that's probably a rare luxury when a burning semi is destroying an overpass or closing a major interstate highway.

There are methods using salt water that show promise, but how many fire companies are carrying (or even have quick access to) sufficient salt water reserves?

There's testing in high pressure nozzles that can penetrate or slice thru the fire-resistant battery casings, but that seems like a challenge as well, getting close enough to and in-and-around all of the batteries packed onto a large semi truck.

If someone comes up with a reliable and affordable way to fight these fires, I'm recommending we all invest in that company, because they are bound to make a fortune. Where there's a real problem, a solution will be forthcoming, it's too lucrative an opportunity to ignore.

The issue is lithium-ion provides it's own oxygen for combustion. The only hope with water is to cool the fire to extinguish vs smothering a wood fire.

LiFePO4 is easier to extinguish with water. Not as power dense as the lithium-ion chemistries but it is becoming the future of EVs.

Elon asked about charging infrastructure bill: "Unnecessary, don't pass it, Delete"

I like what he's saying.

Some have accused him of wanting to cut the subsidies, only after Tesla benefitted from them. But if it was GM who originally lobbied for the subsidies, and if Elon has been consistent in his stance that they're unnecessary spending, then that is something to really admire and respect.

At 6'-1", Once Upon A Time I drove a rental Toyota Yaris 500 miles one day. Utter misery. Never again. Knee knocked it out of Drive 3 or 4 times. OTOH a Chevrolet Sonic LT (on another leg of the journey) was a delight.

I learned how to get in/out of the Model S. When it was time for the S to go to a new home, and my decreasing mobility, I wasn't getting another S. The Y is very easy to get in/out, lots of headroom.
Never sat in an X. An 2014 S was somewhat painful but doable. A 2019 Model 3 was hard no go period. The 2023 Y now is showing 38K miles and coming off a comfortable 7 day cross country 2500 mile road trip.

My limitation is the Ankylosis Spondylitis has over 73 years fused my entire spinal vertebrates into one long bone.

I would have never left home without FSD doing all of the route planning in the 10 plus state trip and 98% of the physical driving.
