remove the tank from an IBC tote, cut an access hole in the cage, chain it to the fork frame, chain across the access hole, and you have a nice little work platform.

I trim trees with same arrangement and it works great.

Had been meaning to post this to this thread! I later discovered that I could skip the chains and just fork it through the door frames (and under the roof): it's now scrap.

I used just one fork to dig a shallow trench to bury some landscape lighting wires. Worked out very well. Just need to be careful not to dig in too deep.

Is it worth it to buy a set of skid steer forks that I might be able to get on the cheap? They will fit the skid steer loader adaptor I had built for my Deere 5520--85 hp-- . The forks are the HD version and I think either 3000# or more and 48" long.

Problem is, I only lift a few pallets a year and after that am stumped for it's usefulness. I think I could move big rocks or other things but never paid attention to forks that much. The forks will QT fit my skid steer attachment, are new and I think I can pay $300. Seem like that's worth it? What else do you guys do with forks besides lift pallets?
pick up your ATV when it's stalled and bring it home
put a wide board over the forks and carry hay/straw bales
poke through the loops of those 'mini' bulk bags of feed to move them (but you would have to lift pretty high)
pick up/move self-standing fence panels (by the top, not the bottom!)

The ultimate set of forks is forklift. I keep a CAT 5k forklift with air tires on the ranch. It is probably used more than the the tractor or skid steer which both have forks that are rarely used.
The forklift has better visibility and better control (side shift). Recently I'm using it to R&R the filled tires on the MX to install wheel spacers, load and unload the fuel tank for a refill, sharpen blades on the flail mower, it has been a lift for the golf cart repairs, a welding platform, a weekly dumpster mover, and more.

I use forks for turning the compost pile and for straightening metal fence posts. Horses on both sides of the property push the fence posts in, I drive up to the post, line up with one of the forks, then push the post back to vertical. Then, raise fork above the post and use bottom of fork to push post deeper into ground.

Can you better explain the adjustable wrench in the second photo?

Using T-bolts to secure the manlift legs. One leg is enough to secure the platform in case the hydraulics fail.

The hammer-wrench is DIY multitool. Heavy wall tube I welded on top allows for leverage and bite into wood post when stretching wire. Have several adjustable attachments that use T or L-bolts to secure them. That particular hammer head is marked Bellsouth.

On a smaller scale, an electric pallet jack is also quite useful:

It won't replace my FEL forks but it sure makes it a snap to move palletized implements around in tight spaces.

I used my electric forklift to hold up ceiling panels while I screwed them in place.

I have used a well placed fork to jack a car up for a tire change.
