That's because you are wrong. People are buying them for what they need. You are free to buy something with an 8 foot bed if that's what you need... As I pointed out in that other thread.
Of course I'm wrong, not falling heads over heels for current 1/2-tons and their J2807 ratings.

And as pointed out in the other thread, I don't need or want an 8' bed. It's quite rare that I have anything in a pickup bed these days. But I do have multiple trailers, none of which I tow (even on the property) with a 1/2-ton.

That's fine, you do you. Maybe your trailers are heavy enough that you need that.

I tow all of my trailers with a 1/2 ton truck. These trailers weigh only 1000 - 7000 lb., so well within both the rating and capability of a 1/2 ton truck.

If I were towing 10k lb. trailers, especially at highway speeds, then I'd want a heavier truck. But for a 3000# trailer on the highway, or a 7000# trailer on local roads, my 1/2 ton is perfectly adequate.

It appears to me that more than half the 3/4 ton and 1-ton trucks driven around here have never even seen a trailer hitch, and are just driven by guys who think a heavier truck is somehow tied to the size of their genitalia.

Not counting the trailers that very rarely or never never see public roads, my lightest one probably weighs around 4,000 or so. That wouldn't leave much for any load on it if pulled by a 1/2-ton.

Another part of the equation is that they're goosenecks. The one redeeming factor of bumper pulls is the ability (need, really) to use WD hitches. Well, can't use that with a gooseneck.

Yes, I could make a gooseneck hitch for my 1500, but why? It's easier to use a tow vehicle better suited for towing, even though it can be overkill at times.

My little half ton has the 6 1/2 ft bed so with the tailgate down I've got 8 ft of flat space. I will admit that it is a bit unusual but it is much more maneuverable then my old Ford F350 crewcab with the 8 ft bed was.
Yes. I have the SuperCab, not SuperCrew, which means suicide doors for the rear and not quite as long. Bugged the heck out of me for the 6.5 bed isn't long enough to put dirtbike in lengthwise and close the tailgate. Bought a "bed extender" gate to fold out on the tailgate to keep things in the bed from sliding out with the tailgate down.

Had a SuperDuty Once Upon A Time with 6.75' bed that would almost hold the dirtbikes. Tire rested in the bed but overhung. Bought some brackets which held the tailgate partially open, solved the problem.

And had automatic transmissions and chokes.
Honestly, bed length and carpet bother me way less than the automatic transmission. I switched brands back in 2005, just because the brand I'd been driving until then stopped offering manual transmission.

If I could buy a 1/2 ton crew cab today with a ~6 liter v8 and a manual transmission, that'd be the brand I'd be driving... but such a thing does not exist anymore, to my knowledge.

What does a stick shift do better than an automatic? My truck is a manual 6 speed and I’d way rather drive my dad’s automatic 550. BTW the 550 still has a vinyl floor. That truck is a 2018 but I think you can still get them with vinyl floors.

I was surprised to find that I can't get my truck from Ford anymore: F350 XL extended cab/long bed. I paid $27,000 for my truck, ordered with everything I wanted on it in 2004. Now, (if I read their website correctly) the cheapest F350 extended cab/long bed is now the Lariat, starting at $63,460 (and for that I would have to get a lot of extra stuff I don't want, like carpet and power windows).

Good thing my current truck will last until I die.
