I gave up on calling things in a long time ago. Back around the turn of the century I was on some deserted highway in NH when I hit a patch of black ice and almost went out through the rhubarb. It was dark, I'd been driving most of the day and still had to find a place to stay but felt I should call it in. Back then it was *77 for SP so I dialed and when the dispatcher answered I told her that I wasn't familiar with the area but was on Rte *.* Eastbound and gave a landmark which would be on a map. She misunderstood and we went back and forth for a bit as I tried to explain that if I was eastbound, the ice couldn't be east of me. I was tired, probably hungry and just wanted to get out of the truck and relax.
I finally said "I'm sorry I bothered you" and hung up.
I understand that, but if you have ever reported a crime, that didn't really involve you, I think you will learn the lesson.

I have reported several over the years. Last one, pull into vacant lot to eat lunch, and pee; see a chopped up, new, Honda motorcycle hidden behind a bush. Call LEOs, they ask like 20 questions, and tell me to wait until their officer arrives. I waited an hour, and just left. I didn't "witness" anything, and it wasted a significant amount of my work day. If I had waited on the officer, it couple have been several more hours waiting, and then the whole "why where you here" "how did you know to look where it was hidden" and all that BS.

Anymore, I don't report anything that isn't an active hazard. Last two calls have been cows out on roadway (not my neighborhood, just driving at work).
Yep.

Yep. BTDT, but I still call them in, and my neighbors starting doing the same and it has made a real difference locally. One of the deputies explained that the calls help them justify manpower and the calls helps them make the case for patrolling areas that they think are trouble spots or at risk. Definitely a YMMV thing in my book.

The last group of offenders that we called in had a pair of patrol cars on their tail in less than two minutes. It was complete serendipity that they were in the area, but they were. Given the access around here, I'd bet good money that the perpetrators were found, especially as there haven't been any repeats thereafter.

All the best,

Peter

Call me old fashioned...and after 5 years of reading TBN posts, I think 99% of the guys on this forum are the same way...well, maybe 98%!

I still believe it's not just cops that should live with an objective to serve and to protect.

It's too easy for civilization to slip into chaos without us trying to hold the line for doing what is right.

What is this "Amazon" you are talking about??
All I see is a company that doesn't make a single thing and stole a name from another company that actually earned it! Yeah, PRIME is the name of a long time trucking company out of MO (?). Back in the day before the DOT got ahold of them, they were one of the infamous left lane companies. If you saw a PRIME, INC truck coming up in your mirror, you getter get out of the left lane because they weren't letting any grass grow under their feet! PRIME, INC sued Amazon to get their name off of those trucks, but because of people being sheep, Amazon was already too big to stop.
I try not to feed a monster..., so Amazon is the LAST place I go when I am looking for something. With the search engines available on the 'net, all it takes is a little bit of effort to figure out exactly who is making the items that Amazon is selling.

I like to get the maximum value for the money I spend. I do a quick search for the exact same item, and then decide who gets my hard earned money.

Jeez, who peed in your oatmeal this morning? How many other stores/merchants manufacture the products that they sell?
I've never heard of the trucking company you reference, but "Prime" is just the name of a service Amazon provides, not the name of the company. If you can't tell the difference between the two...

Now maybe you live where anything you could possibly need is available, in stock and at a competitive price within a 30 minute drive, but that's not the case for most of us.

Thank you for your opinion and morning sunshine.
I’ve always enjoyed using Amazon. Didn’t know I should be buying everything directly from the factories, and not doing so, makes me a sheep. I learned something new this morning.

Just ordered a couple of things on Amazon. They will get here tomorrow for free. I have a Prime acct.
Shipping is stupid high now, free delivery makes a difference in the price I pay to say nothing of the convenience of fast delivery.
To each their own. You do you.
