Can’t Sell My Bushhog

Also, let's say you want a 5 or even 6 ft bushhog, if priced right, and just personal, small scale use, many people would buy a 48", IF priced aggressive enough.
I don't see this happening. At least around here, there are so many damn 5 foot brush hogs for sale on a routine basis, I don't see anyone ever even considering a much less common 48" in its stead. Because there are so many 5 footers out there, you can almost always find better options in that size, versus uncommon 4 footers.

I could see those who really want 48" settling for a 5 footer that's too large for their machine, because that's all they can find. But not the other way around. When I had bought the 48" M4 for my Deere 855, I had been watching out for a good one at a decent price for 2-3 years. In that time, I'd passed up probably 50 or more 60" and 72" units.

I've seen a lot of 4 ft mowers over the years and most were used by nursery companies or Christmas tree growers. The four ft fits between narrow tree or plant rows and mates well with the narrow tractors designed for tree growing operations.

I can't see too many people buying them to mow around a house or field because you can get a lawnmower that's a wider size and make life easier and time better well-spent.

In my case, I was buying it to make and then maintain rough trails through the woods. It worked well behind that little Deere 855 (approximate predecessor to modern JD 2025R), where a 60" would been too large for that machine to safely handle on hills.

Those here who are saying you need 20hp to run a 48" rotary cutter must not have ever run one!

I have an 48" Woods and a tractor with 12-1/2 hp on the PTO and it runs mine quite good. Yes even in fairly thick grass it mows it right down, just not going really fast.

In normal grass/weeds you can move right along, and the little diesel will keep up just fine, my dad used it for keeping the heavy grass and weeds down where he hunted and in his shooting lanes.

Like I said, you guys that are saying you need more HP to run one just need to go out and try one first.

I ran one on a B7200 for a while that I think is like 16 hp. Maintaining steering with the tail wheel off the ground was a problem but it had plenty of power. I ran a 60” finish mower with the same tractor which also worked quite well. I’d rather use my grasshopper which I didn’t have back then but the b7200 with wide turf tires and 4x4 could mow about anywhere.
