Ryobi gasoline powered drill/hammerdrill

The only time I saw a gas drill used was working on pier pilings.

The helper said using an electric drill while standing in waist high water was not an option…

I imagine now battery drill would substitute?

He was drilling 1 5/8 inch holes for 1 1/2 stainless all thread 20-24 inches through the pilings so Battery might not be better than gas?

I used to run alot of the smaller ryobi gas engine equipment. They always needed carb work to keep running, and this was before ethanol fuel.

Many of the 2 stoke engine of that era had Walbro carbs.

Thanks, good to know. Parts still available.
These gas recip saws are heavy compared to today's battery powered recip saws.

Definitely. I want to be able to work without the worry of a generator and charging batteries once in a while (mainly a fencing job I will be doing).

Strangely I found another

I have one of those recip saws. Give me a little time to get it out and see if I can figure out what carb is on it.

This is a Ryobi EJ100 gas recip saw I bought in 1992. It has a Walbro WA74 carb with R7 stamped on it. ryobi part no. 2FR66652 with a gasket 2FR66671. Noticed that the two carb air filters are shot on mine, but forgot to write down the part nos.

The specs say it weighs 11lbs and has a 1 inch blade stroke. The box says Ryobi Limited Tokyo Japan. I suspect it was made in Japan because it has that sort of quality feel to it.

For some reason, I am wondering if Ryobi might have also made a third gas tool besides the recip saw and the drill, but it's been a long time. I don't recall these being on the market for long or being advertised that much, but can't say for sure.

Have you bought parts for carb recently? We have lots of shops around, but the “older” more experienced guys are falling by the wayside fast.

I haven't bought any Walbro parts in probably 20 years. While I think you may be able to get parts for the carb itself, I don't know if the air filters can be had. You might have to buy a larger filter and then cut it down to fit the filter housing. I would expect all of the original filters to be shot by now like mine.

They also made a drill with extension pole. I used to own one…. At least i believe it was ryobi. But that was probably 35-40 years ago.

I didn't go too deep into the search, but these tools were made by Ryobi when they were Japanese owned/based. The saw is made pretty stout. It's not a cheaply made saw.

If someone wanted a gas powered recip saw, I don't know if any other companies made one. This Ryobi saw was made before battery tools started to have longer run times and more power like today.

I also remember a battery operated drill, years ago, that consisted of batteries in a ammo like can, with a quick connect cable running to the tool head.
