If you don't say that you are over 18 it boots you off the website. I've had it happen when looking at camping gear and at fishing equipment.

Edit: they must have changed it. I just went to both sites mentioned above and it allowed me to stay there. I was even able to look at 10/22 rifles... Not that I need yet another .22 in the house.
Now it's back. This time I am looking at snowshoes. Why do you need to be 18 to buy snowshoes?

Screenshot 2024-12-08 210357.png Of course I said that I'm not, and was promptly booted from the site. :p

I wonder if it's some setting in your browser. I just went to their site to look at boots and no such problems.

It did think "my store" was in Scarborough, Maine...maybe that's the one nearest to me...dunno, never seen one of their stores.

No worse than referring to mayonnaise as "mayo", or the one that really annoys me calling vegetables "veggies".
See those two used in print all the time.
Ah, don't vegetate on it.;)

We both dislike the term Kiddos

Youtube asking you to log in before watching. Somehow that makes their community safer? I don't see how. They just want to track is all.
That's true. But you do get better content in your feed if you log in, as it learns what other videos and channels you might like, based on your watching habits.

True but, I'll forgo tracking. I can find the content on my own. Granted, being tracked other ways also but, why make it easy for them.

I went to buy a box of wooden matches at a self checkout and as soon as I scanned the matches a light went on saying self checkout needs assistance.
The attendant came over after a couple of minutes and said just scan your ID and I will reset it so you can continue your self checkout. Had to be 18 to buy matches at this national chain store.

I had them reset it and left the matches with the attendant. Bought them elswhere.

It’s smoking paraphernalia. They’ve checked my id to buy cigarette lighters. I’m not sure that is state law vs excessive caution from the retailer.

I believe that Walmart restricts paint sales to minors because of "huffing." I know that they cared me when I bought a can of their "electronics duster" a couple of years ago

Always fun getting carded by a kid, who wasn't even born yet, when you turned 21. :D
I looked older as a kid. It was a thrill to get away buying booze at 15 the 1st time.
Now at many times 15 I'm being carded for nonsense?
This world is spiraling into a pit of stupidity at an ever accelerating rate.
I blame it on lawyers.

I haven't seen any such thing when I've visited Youtube. Are you using a cellphone or a real computer? Might make a difference.

I have noticed that lately Facebook is requiring you to log in to view any pages. A lot of organizations use it instead of having a dedicated website. Typically you have less than 20 seconds before a sign-in popup appears (that you can't click away). I don't, nor do I have any interest in joining FB.

Just the opposite here, I've always looked younger than I am. Kind of sucked when I was younger...tended to get treated like a kid but not so bad now. Most people peg me for being early 60s, I'm 74.
There's an IGA-type grocery store next town over from me, they card EVERYONE if you're buying alcohol. I presume they do the same with tobacco.

Trouble is, it only takes a few to ruin things for everyone. Was just as true 50 years ago as it is today.

Normal computer. Behind a VPN but, my wife who isn't behind one has to login also. Yes, we are both going through the same ISP. I think it doesn't matter for me either but, it's been awhile since I've surfed without the VPN on. Used to be only if I went to YT directly. Now it is even links within forums as well.

The problem isn't the actions of the few. They will always exist.
It's the over reaction by the many often triggered by lawyers.
They don't make money if they aren't being litigious.

Weird. I read something on a different forum of someone complaining about the same thing but it works fine for me.

Next time I am getting ready to shutdown my computer I'll try again after I turn off the VPN. Maybe it is the VPN but, I swear it did it to me without before but, like i said it has been a while.
