Ryobi gasoline powered drill/hammerdrill

This is a Ryobi EJ100 gas recip saw I bought in 1992. It has a Walbro WA74 carb with R7 stamped on it. ryobi part no. 2FR66652 with a gasket 2FR66671. Noticed that the two carb air filters are shot on mine, but forgot to write down the part nos.

The specs say it weighs 11lbs and has a 1 inch blade stroke. The box says Ryobi Limited Tokyo Japan. I suspect it was made in Japan because it has that sort of quality feel to it.

For some reason, I am wondering if Ryobi might have also made a third gas tool besides the recip saw and the drill, but it's been a long time. I don't recall these being on the market for long or being advertised that much, but can't say for sure.

Well the air cleaner element is shot and after 5 minutes of looking, it appears to be a discontinued part.

I have 4 gas drills. 2 are Echo's the other 2 are sthils. never found a use for them yet.

Only time I have seen in action is when repairing piers for a lake dock and was told 120 volt while standing in water too risky to chance and battery was not a thing for heavy duty deep boring.

I think the options are to either find some foam air filter that can be cut to fit the Ryobi air filter housing or see if there's another housing and air filter that fits the particular Walbro carb on these Ryobis.

I like the idea of finding a substitute housing that takes a current air filter.

Here’s the housing for the filter. It’s maybe 3 inches across.

My guess is that there is some air filter housing that will mount to the Walbro carb if you can figure out which one has the same mounting screw pattern.

I think Walbros were used on some Sthils. Can't say if this one will fit, but you get the idea.

A lot of my small engines have simple oil resistant foam filters...

Maybe a dealer might buy in bulk and could cut to size...?

So I cut a new foam filter from a briggs & straton foam filter and installed it. Not perfect, but OK for testing purposes.

Took a few pulls, but it fired up. First few attempts, it would start then die. After about 5 times, it would run strong, then die.
Next 5 pulls it ran well and would idle without stalling.

Only thing I don’t like is it takes 20-25:1 fuel mix. Kind of an oddity as everything else seems like it’s 50:1 now.

Neat tool. I might try to find a Ryobi recip saw next.
