Good Morning,
Ct, 12 to start going to 30 , BTW it never made it past 25 yesterday but today we have some sun so I’m optimistic! 😉

going down a path of thought and then forgetting why I got there...most of us do a little of this, but
Drew, I can’t tell you how many times I have gone up to the second floor or out to the garage for something and then forgot why I went out there ! 😀 I’m sure you would make a good instructor, I guess you just need to remain focused!

So yesterday I signed up online to take a food manager course through Serve Safe ! The local health department is requiring any one who serves food to the public to take this course, and since we serve food to the public at our summer concert series at the FD , I am required to take it ! I’m not thrilled about it but if we as a FD company want to continue doing these concerts it has to be done ! The course consists of 10 modules, I’ve done 1 so far and at the end you have to take a proctored test ! I hate tests , so I better know my material ! Well there isn’t much going on out side with these temps so I guess it’s not like I’m losing any outside time ! 😉

Dennis hope your fingers getting better, and also prayers for Kyle’s Mom ! Also any others that are not feeling well ! 🙏

Hope all have a great day !!🙏

Good morning TBN!!

19 :( cold degrees not going to make it out of the 30s again today. Sounds like we missed most of the storm. A little rain and some breezy conditions is it. I think not as lucky come Fri/Sat

Not much. Got a couple of walks in. Haven't seen the otter in a couple of day. Owners of the pond are bumming. They had drained the pond and did some work on it. Filled it up and then stocked it. Pretty sure the otter gained some weight!
Aside from walking it was a mostly sorting and puttering kind of day. I have been only getting around 5k steps since weather changed to cold. I hate the cold anymore!

Time for a second cup and dogs breakfast

Everyone have a great and safe day!!

Good Morning.
19° and windy out there. Not a great day for outside tasks.
Supposed to remain clear with a high around 30.

I didn’t get around to posting yesterday, I did get to spend some time tinkering in the shop. I made a torch holder that drops into the clamp holes in my welding table. Cut it out on the plasma table and welded it together.

Did some chores and finished the day in front of the fireplace watching music videos with Erica.

We did get some snow yesterday, enough to get the tractor out and cleanup.

Lane.20250106_121716_160151194.jpg

Got everything plowed and shoveled, including walks, patios and porches.
Went to a friends and straightened out an electrical issue. He replaced toggle switches with Decora style ones in a 4 way setup and nothing worked when he was done. I’ve been through this before, and learned that it’s faster to remove all the switches, ring out all the wires and start from scratch. It seems that there is no universal color code to follow, but at least these were wired correctly with 3 conductor wires, unlike some I have encountered where the ground was used as a conductor in a retrofit. I got it all sorted out and back together, and left him with a sketch and schematic on a napkin of how it all works.
Got home to a Courier and Ives scene of the Old Folks Home in the snow.
The planned Oddfellows meeting was canceled due to the icy roads, a choice that I agreed with, as they were in great shape, except for where they weren’t. The most dangerous condition.

Today will start with breakfast with the professor. He was actually an attorney, but when he retired, went back to school and got an education degree, and taught history as a college professor until his second retirement.
When asked what motivated him to do that, he said “the amount of damage that he could do to society as a lawyer was pretty limited, but as an educator, it could go on for generations”.

Wife is joining us this morning, I extended a standing invitation to Drew as well, but so far he hasn’t taken me up on it.

A rare second day in a row Good Morning to All who celebrate! Currently 24 with a high of 32, breezy and cold. Some severe drifts in my commute to work today.

I returned home early from work yesterday to get to plowing, and the snow-push worked admirably. Trick is getting enough down-pressure for a good clear without losing steering:

Tractor performed well as well, but it is wanting for weight. I think a box blade or a ballast box is in my future for the three point, even without, it moved an impressive amount of snow. Much faster than using a rear blade, fewer, but larger piles and the sealcoat is still in place. Only downside is that you can't scrape as clean with the hard rubber as with steel. Oh well, if full clean was the requirement, I'd have purchased a stiff bristle rotary broom instead.

Of course, this morning I woke up to find another inch of snow on the clean driveway and it's supposed to drift over as well. Maybe another excuse for a crack at it again.

In non-snow related events, I was intrigued by the Darn Tough Socks, anything with a lifetime guarantee is worth at least a try. So put an order in for those as well. Might even share them with my father if they turn out worthwhile.

Plans for the day: Phone System Migration at noon, this is the second to last store, and it has been a grind. Might do the Great Box burning while the ground is frozen so the tractor doesn't tear up the yard this weekend.

All, stay warm and safe! Prayers for those ailing and recovering! Enjoy the day y'all!

Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 5:15AM. Plenty of sunshine. High 68F. Winds NNE at 10 to 20 mph.
There were terrible ice storms the last two years I spent in Ohio before I moved to California. My car was frozen to the street for two weeks one winter. Hope all those dealing with snow and ice stay out of harm's way.

Hoping the best for your mom, Kyle. Winters are very hard on older folks for a lot of reasons, and a lot of my childhood memories of Christmas and New Years involve hospitals.

The drive south was almost all freeway, and I was happy to be in the van instead of on a motorcycle. Would have been a waste of tire rubber. We had a smaller turnout than usual, with only a few of the classic Airheads showing up. Still it was very nice to see the gang again. Daytime temps were in the mid 70s, and it didn't get below 50F overnight. The new foam matress was nice and warm, but the memory foam was a bit stiff in the lower temperatures. Spent one day hiking through the desert looikng for elephant trees, which were anything but.

I rode in a friend's car for that outing, but enjoying a couple beers on the front porch of the Iron Door bar was the highlight of the day. It was that or the catered dinner, in fact all the catered food, five meals, was delicious. Two nights camping and campfires, and five meals for only $45 is a steal anyway you look at it. Can't say that about the gas in that area, which was just over $6/gallon.

Yesterday I finally got the recirculating hot water pump installed on the water heater, and the Comfort Valve manifold installed under the master bath sink., all the way over on the other side of the house The manifold was a bit of a plumber's nightmare because there was a cabinet partition between the hot and cold water feeds. Won't know until I try the shower this later this morning how much of a difference it'll make, though.

Got a replacement sensor installed on the water meter, but was unable to contact it with the existing WiFi based controller. Found a paragraph in the instructions about the sensor and controller needing to be the same vintage, so it looks like a discussion with their tech support is on today's agenda.

Decided to forego the Bandaids on the fingers yesterday, and only had one or two painful moments when one of them got roughhoused a bit. Enjoyed being able to wash my hands and not worry about soggy bandages for a change.

I want to get the Xmas lights taken down today, and find a new source of 12 Volts DC for the electronic rearview mirror in the van. The first one I picked to start with turns off when the headlights go to high beam.

are those R4s or hybrid R14 or whatever they call it?
do you have a rototiller you can put on back?

don't mess up the sealcoat...when it all melts I'm sure you'll be eyeballing it.
sealcoats sure do look nice for a while
and then we beat on them.

19° earlier, now up to 20°
Wind chill is the issue. House is cold.

Finger doing better. Glad the glove took the worst of it. Can’t imagine the pain my oldest had when he was knocked down and his hand landed in camp fire up at big meadows. That was bad. He had several visits to Hopkins Burn unit in Baltimore. Today you can’t tell it.

Son is off work again today. Places getting soft.

If nothing else, he can buy a cheap TSC 3ph carryall and put a pallet on it. Then load the pallet with weight of whatever kind.
