Another question for the OP: do you plan on towing the tractor for remote work or service?

If so, weight may be a factor. Most compacts are light enough to tow with a 1/2 ton truck, with a utility tractor you’ll need a bigger truck.

Buy an older Ford tractor made in USA. Good ones can be found if you buy smart. Ford 4610.

I have a 60 acre homestead and last April, I bought a new 40hp Mahindra with some optional equipment from a reputable local dealer. I have just under 200 hours on it now and so far, this tractor has served me well. A bigger tractor would have been nice but more expensive to operate and maintain. No regrets with the size and brand of the tractor I bought. Would do it again. Cannot imagine not having a tractor now.

Hi all,
New here. Last year we moved to our 80 acres and built a house. I am going on 50 years old. On the docket this spring is a tractor to help make the work easier.

Uses for tractor would be land management, gardening, wood cutting, food plots, field clearing, animal care (goats, chickens, etc.), snow removal, two track/trail maintenance, and eventually maybe even some crop work down the road or a hay field and cutting/bailing. I could have about 30-35 acres of tillable on our land with some work, the rest is wooded/swampy. 4x4, cab, and loader is a must. I am not sure what else to add but I'll try to answer any questions asap.

I don't intend to make a living doing anything of these things. More of retirement hobby. :)

I do NOT want to buy a tractor that is too small or one that is too large to get into the woods when needed.

I talked to a local Kioti dealer and his recommendation was a NS4710HB w/ cab w/ loader at a price of $40.5K.

I guess I am also interested in Mahindra but not sure on a specific tractor. There is also a Kubota and Massey Furgeson dealer nearby, but I think I've ruled on Kubota and JD just because of the premium price.

What brands (Kioti, Mahindra, TYM, Branson, Massey, Case IH, New Holland, Yanmar etc.) would you recommend or definitely avoid and if you have specific models that would be great as well.

I think I just want to go new to take advantage of 0% financing and I don't want an old tractor that constantly needs tinkering to keep it operational.

Thanks. Look forward to the conversation.
I have a Kubota L5740 4x4 Cab with a Front End Loader. Pre emissions. Hydrostatic Transmission. $36,500

If you have a Yanmar dealer go look at the YT347/YT359 they are a really nice tractor and the cab is a little smaller that some of the other tractors but it is very comfortable and you will find that the IHMT tranny is great and you won't find that on any of the other tractors in that class. Sorry to burst your bubble on the 0% financing but most of the deals are just having you pay the interest up front by giving a cash price vs the finance price. Also look at the john deere and kubota lines you may be surprised at the cost. Most of all having a dealer that you like is very important as much as the brand because there are a lot of nice tractors out there and many will serve you well.

Big drawback to the Yanmar yt359 is how lightweight it’s built for a 59 hp tractor. Cab tractor only weighs about 3400lbs , loader and bucket only adds about 1100. Total bare tractor and loader about 4500. My Open station CIH dx35 , only 35 hp weighs that much.
Contrast that with a JD 5055E bare tractor 7000lbs , loader with bucket adds 2000lbs plus . Total about 9000lbs . Twice the weight! Which puts in in a way more capable category for about same money.
Below are the specs, note the yt359 is listed with Full Fluid filled tires so you have to deduct about 1000lbs.
well I can tell you with the loader on and rim guard in the rear tires I have weighed my on a scale and it is just under #7000 and it is a YT347 with a cab

I have 16 years experience in earthmoving gear. I have a good look around comparing everything and ended up with a kioti rx8030 for around AUD$67k. Very happy with it. Similar quality to Kubota but AUD$30k less for the same HP. Kioti is actually Daedong which has been around for yonks. If doing more random tasks than pasture work i would recommend a HST model. Cheers

I don’t think your comment is true regarding 0% financing. If you ask for a cash discount versus financing, the discount isn’t much. Why would a dealer want to give much of a cash discount? The financing is done by corporate not the dealer.

I'm on my 3rd Kubota. We got a B2601 last fall with the front hyd added, 0% financing, good in the woods. My oldest on is a late 1980's L2250. I've used that for years clearing the drive and bucket and backhoe work. The other is a SSV65 skidsteer with 76" snowblower, bucket, stump puller, excavator arm, and a plow I can share with the B2601. They are very reliable machines that will last for decades.

I bought a kubota @0% interest new. I got one size bigger than I thought I needed. I got an MX and I a happy I did. Wished I had gotten a rear remote. A cab would have been nice, but I have a woods as well. Love this tractor and its reliability. This is my second tractor, but the best.

First off: congratulations! Second: you’re gonna love having a tractor! So many things you can use it for, that you never even realized!

I got a Branson 3520h and love it! Doing it again, I’d get one with 45-50hp. And absolutely love the hydrostatic transmission. But it does eat a little power!

With what you have planned, I’d go with min 50hp. And make sure you seating position is comfortable!

I went to 5 dealers and all offered a $3K discount since I was paying cash.

That’s definitely not the case with Kubota dealerships. I shopped with several and was told the price is the same or a very small discount. The dealership doesn’t carry the loan so it makes no difference to them.

All 5 were Kubota dealerships as that is what I bought. So I don't know why you were told that.

I checked directly with Yanmar and the published weight does not include FEL or ballast.

That’s a good metric, thanks for posting. It’s confusing the way Yanmar lists the weight of the YT’s in the brochure. Up close they’re every bit as big as a Kubota Grand L.

I considered a few different brands and different dealerships, the best salesman was at a John Deere store that guy was very knowledgeable about what he was selling and very honest. But the John Deere tractor cost about $15,000 more than the LS I wound up buying with what seems to be the same Yanmar engine and same 3 speed hydrostatic transmission. My LS came from the factory equipped with 3 remotes, to me that was a very big selling point.
The Kubotas besides being overpriced come with a forward-reverse pedal that I simply don’t like so it was pretty easy for me to cross Kubota off my list.
I liked Branson but the dealer was over 100 miles from my home and I preferred to buy something closer to home.
Shopped at a few different LS dealers but preferred the one 40 miles from home so that’s where I bought from, when I was buying new tractors weren’t easy to get but my dealer managed to locate what I wanted at a dealer somewhere in Iowa and didn’t charge me anything to go get it and deliver it to me. So far I have 435 trouble free hours on it and any time I have had any questions my dealer has been excellent at answering them. I highly recommend anyone in my area to consider buying from Miller Tractor Sales in Spencer Wisconsin. Miller Tractor is a family owned and operated outfit and I know for a fact that folks have been hauling tractors a couple hundred miles to get repairs done there.
