True, also when I park the truck, bike or any other vehicle we have the dog barks, but with the ev, I have driven up the drive, parked the car, and already at the house opening the door before the dog finally realizes someone has arrived.

I still find it amazing that even hypermiling the motorcycle it can't get anywhere near as many miles per dollar spent on fuel as the ev, not even close, but we do have relatively cheap KWH prices.

My dog does the same.

I ride my motorcycles for fun, so don't worry about getting good gas mileage. They chew through tires/chains/sprockets etc, so much cheaper to take the MYP to run errands. So much fun to punch the throttle on that thing.

You need a goose.
My gander yells* when I open a door.

*: if I haven't let them out yet, they get excited. if they're already out, they don't care much about me

Be 10 minutes late to feeding time, they'll let you know

2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD
says 28 kWh/100 miles. EPA measures from-grid, the energy to charge the battery to drive the miles. Is more accurate to measure this way, but harder. One has to measure the energy to recharge back to the SOC one started the trip.

For those who failed high school physics 28 kWh/100 miles is 280 Wh/mile. In-car indicated 208 Wh/mile from battery for 140 mile average.

For those who failed high school math 208 Wh/mile is 4.8 miles/kWh.

So what did you fail?

Yeah but when you finished the trip and parked what was your actual fuel usage? When you do the same thing going down a long hill in an EV the energy is being harvested and put back in the battery, the truck is getting the brake rotors and pads hot instead.
Yes, but I don't have a 70 mile hill to go up/down then return down/up.

Both Grumpy and I have seen almost 5 miles per KWH at the vehicles best and that is for sustained driving in good summer weather. EV's have a broader best to worst energy usage for sure, winter they do use way more energy, but summer can get some pretty great efficiency.
Teslafi says all the losses parked since prior drive and consumed during this drive works out to 278 kWh/mile added from the power grid. 208 displayed in-vehicle, 278 measured (still by the vehicle but calculated by other means) outside vehicle.

In good news, installers called today to clarify where my Powerwalls were to be mounted in new house. They are on site actually installing. In other news while they were doing that I was getting a bladder stone blasted. Took my first hydrocodone, lets see what that does.

Taking a trip in the Y today, first time I have ever charged it all the way to 100%
Some say one should charge to 100% once per year immediately prior to a drive. That it shouldn't be left to set very long.

Said to give the battery SOC calibration an updated datapoint. Actual battery SOC that we take so seriously is major guesswork as unlike a liquid fuel there is nothing one can directly measure to establish battery SOC. Can only guess based on temperature, voltage, battery health, and some knowledge of coulombs in/out.
