I have a 2022 5520ch, after lubing everything, my 4WD lever will fall into 4WD with only a little bit of movement. Apparently, the dirt I pushed out of the levers when greasing them was saving me from this.

There's an obvious detent while in 4WD, but what only feels like a very weak one when disengaged. Looking at the lever and linkage, the detent I feel in 4WD is obviously internal to the transmission. Is there usually a firm detent also while disengaged?

I'm about to put a fat rubber band between the lever and seat to keep this from happening.

Anyone have a real solution?

The detent should have the same pressure on both positions (engaged and disengaged).

Are you sure the 4WD Lever is moving the full travel in the disengage position?

I have a vague idea of someone mentioning that the rubber boot would prevent it from moving all the way in the Cab models.

EDIT: The detent is built within the fork that moves the 4WD gear back and forth. So no good way to access it and I can't see why it would the issue, instead of with the linkage.

I was wondering the same thing. The rubber is stressed when disengaged, but it appears the transmission limits the movement. I loosened the rubber to confirm.

The seat moved forward will cause interference with the levers and push it down. I encountered this the first time my wife drove the tractor.

Very helpful.

For my next step, I think I will disconnect the linking from the transmission and see if something else limits the movement, and confirm the transmission has a detent working while disengaged.

My 4wd lever has always had very positive detents, and my tractor has always been incredibly clean.

But my seat comes nowhere near the lever, so maybe yours is different... I thought the 5520 and 4820 were the same chassis

That's a good move to troubleshoot this one out.

I don't think the linkage has any adjustment but it would be nice if it did.
