Oxy/acet tank ownership transfer

I’ve never been asked for proof of ownership but I have receipts for hydro testing which is just added proof of needed and my tanks have my stenciled name in large font on each.

My question which I believe will largely answer your question for you. How many times when getting a “refill” (my very limited experience with various tanks has always been an exchange) have you bern asked about proof of ownership?
Never.

Something I don't have either. When they require hydro testing, my LWS stamps it on the bottle, most times below the collar.

Whatever changed with Airgas, they now could care less about lease or ownership, and just
exchange MT for Full. Some years back, very strict about leases or proof of ownership,
and if you brought in a bottle that wasn't on your account, you had 2 choices if you couldn't
produce paperwork. 1. Leave bottle on dock and it's now theirs. 2. Talk to the sheriff they'd
threaten to call. I attribute the current lack of enforcement to counter Luddites only really
interested in keeping their noses in their phones. It seems like full workload to have them
generate an invoice for an exchange. No complaints from me...

Airgas was the worst I think. I avoided them and had a semi-local outfit that would fill or exchange. I had one oxygen bottle that was odd sized and they only had one or two of that size to exchange so there were times when it had to be sent in for refill instead of exchange. I finally upsized it with a trade and fee. Now I go to a smaller place that had been very good about exchanging even if my bottles needed to be retested. Just paid for a fill. That company had since changed ownership and I haven't need gas since, so I guess in time I will find out their policy. Ha!

Have non of the above issues but it could be because I have a commercial account.

Mine too but having the receipt lends credence I own the bottle since I paid for the hydro.

Free Hydro is a great deal… couldn’t get that even when the plant super was a personal friend but hydro, new valve, paint and fill very reasonable… plus free home pickup and delivery!

I don't use my torches too often, usually just for heating tight nuts or cutting them off. I have switched from using acetylene to using propane, much less expensive and easy to swap out at most stores of all types, even some drug stores, plus I use the propane for grilling and running my dual fuel generator. I still have a small acetylene bottle, but I seldom use it, especially since I have a propane compatible cutting tip, that was a difficult find.
I don't have a pickup, just a cargo van, the last time I went to Airgas to swap out my oxygen bottle, they refused to do it, since I would be putting it into the van. Went down the street to another place, Victor I think, no problem there.

actually propane tank refills are the same way around here, suppliers will not fill a tank if it's to be transported horizontally, must be vertical (State regs). not sure on welding tanks re: that issue.
