Old neighbour used to feed 30-40 feral cats.
His place was a minefield
Anyways he put the dry cat food out in a 2 foot across old garbage can lid.
The cats would come and sit around this "dish" which was on a concrete patio.
His son, ever the troublemaker/sh-t disturber decided to have some fun.
He roughly measured how big the circle of the cats bums was as they ate with their heads in the dish.
He got a bunch of black powder and poured a ring of it around the dish at the right distance. When the cats were comfortably eating, probably around 25-30, he lit the powder.
You never saw so many cats jump so high and take off for the horizon burnt scrotums and anuses and singed tails...
Cruel? Yes.
Funny? Freaken hilarious!
So many years later and I'm still laughing.

It's a common myth that raccoons seen in the daylight are rabid or sick. Just saying.

As for relocating to the back of your property, it may work. He might be scared and keep on going once you release him. That works for groundhogs in our yard that tunnel under the front porch. I give them a good hazing while they're in the live trap by making a lot of noise and yelling at them. Then I walk them back to the rear of the property and off they go. Fill in the hole. A few months later, another one shows up and starts digging. Where ever there's a good spot for a hole, nest, den, etc... an animal will find it.

But it's kinda fun to trap them. A good hobby.

Oh, for sure they come out during the day.

My MIL called my wife to let her know there was a large raccoon hanging around our garbage can by the road. My MIL lives next to us

As they were still on the call, wife said she heard my AR-15 go off and told my MIL well Rick must have seen it too.

My desk faces the road and I had been waiting for something to try out the new rifle.

I have clubbed a number of the critters to take out of a leghold trap as a teen. 80% of them were quite when I walked up to club them. Very hard to kill with a club.

We didn't use a rifle because we didn't want a hole in the hide we were trying to sell. I finally started carrying a little 22 short.
