You don’t think the technology of engines, fuel , and motor oils, have improved?
Absolutely I do. Things of today were unthinkable 20 years ago. But most of what I read and know tells me 5,000 miles. One of the most vocal is Scotty on Youtube "if you want your car to last", change your oil at 5,000 miles.

There are also knowledgeable people like The Oil Geek, an engineer, that is firm on 5,000 miles. Especially on turbo engines and some modern extra efficient gas engines. I think it's more than just used oil analysis in that some modern engines have started to develop sludge in places they shouldn't and more frequent oil changes seems to fix the issue before it's a problem.

I used to think and do 10,000 miles and even now sometimes go to 6,000 because I have all highway miles. Life and experience leads me to change at 5,000. I wouldn't argue if someone want to change at a higher number and maybe their driving habits work for them. That's just me.

I still remember the days of vehicles all being carburetor engines with physical chokes and accelerator pumps squirting streams of raw fuel into the intake, every time you hit the pedal, washing down cylinder wall lubrication, increasing wear.
Straight 30w non-detergent oil, Leaded fuel…..
Pulling off valve covers and you could barely make out the rocker arms positioned down in depressions they created in an inch thick sludge, at 100k miles.

Ahhh, the good old days.
Watch some clips on Youtube and some modern engines are carbon and sludge bound, apparently from emission controls, after not many miles. The engine then gets oil starved and goes downhill from there.
