BCS PowerSafe
A few years ago, I purchased a brand-new BCS-738 Powersafe with Honda GX270. I reckoned that buying a new tractor, not a second-hand one, might be a life-long investment with my little use in a garden. Now, when the warranty expired, I see how was I wrong.

From day one tractor had an oil leak. Using the tractor 1-2 times a year the leak was not a big problem. During a year I can collect about one liter of transmission fluid leaking. The leak was in a junction between GX270 and Powersafe clutch. That indicates an issue with factory assembly process and quality control. The level of transmission fluid may be critical for a proper operation of Powersafe clutch. When warranty was close to expiring, I decided to take a chance and try to fix the problem with the help of BCS blessed local services.

For a long time, it was not possible to arrange a visit of a mechanic to see the tractor and identify the problem. Without such they won’t consider it as a warranty case. Additionally, they declined to sell me BCS oil filters. Without any success, I wrote a message using feedback form on the official BCS web site bcsagri.com describing my problem and asking help in finding a reputable local service in my country. After submitting the form I've got "Thanks, we have received your information! We will contact you as soon as possible".

In 3 months, however it was not possible for BCS S.p.A. to contact me. Clearly, the warranty has expired. Out of curiosity, I wrote again to BCS S.p.A. wondering if that channel works. In a few days, the answer came from someone in Divisione Abbiategrasso by name Luca Locati. He was very helpful saying that no message from me was ever received, misspelled my tractor model and assured that same people I was in contact with call me soon.

Basically, this is the end of my story. No one contacted me. Without even asking possible repair cost, I assume that 1 liter of most expensive transmission fluid in a year will be less costly solution to continue using my tractor. Additionally, I found that the BCS S.p.A. policy for appointing random companies for local support, may create more troubles to my tractor as a result of their repair compared to simply refilling the oil regularly.

Concluding, you may be lucky if your newly bought BCS 2-weel tractor works trouble-free. If not, you may have difficulties in its warranty repair. When warranty expired, buying spare parts can be a problem too, as for example Ferrari-named oil filter costs a treasure at some resellers. Perhaps, for me the best solution would be to get rid of my tractor and seek a new one from more established brand if someone would recommend me such.

Please contact Joel at www.earthtools.com he is the main importer for BCS and Grillo in the USA.

Joel would be of greater help to you in solving this for you as he has a very good reputation with
BCS and could help you wade through mess of lost communications and service needed for your
BCS tractor.

I am sorry you are going through this.

If I was using a piece of equipment only 1-2 times a year I would look at renting.
Also the term "tractor" in this instance is definitely stretching it. :geek:

Welcome to TBN. A great place to B#$ch about issues that should've been dealt with another way.

"From day one tractor had an oil leak."

Did you contact the seller? Why wait so long to escalate the issue?? You'll now have to just accept it and deal with the leak, for fix it yourself. Leaks aren't really hard to diagnose.

^This is the best lesson. When you have a problem with a warranty type issue, get on it as soon as possible. Companies always seem to drag them out.

@tradosaurus Agreed. My personal minimal definition is at least 4 wheels with a PTO and a seat.

Also, please change your profile pic. She's making me ill. 😀

Greta is the poster child for everything that is negative about going green. Kind of like David Hogg is the poster child (he's an immature brat) for everything political that is wrong as well.

I pay neither of them any mind in reality.

In reality, I would prefer to use the MG42 sub machine gun as my Avatar but I felt that it would offend too many of the thin skinned commenters on this site, so I didn't. I owned one a while ago, it's a C&R approved weapon. 1200 rounds per minute in full auto and capable of 1500 rounds per minute of you lighten the Mauser diuble claw extractor. 1200 rounds of belt fed linked rounds today is expensive enough.

Maybe I should change mine to reflect my hobby.

At one time I considered a Hatz powered BCS to work my garden, they are nice units but if I owned one that leaked, I'd be taking it apart and resealing the leaking joint. I don't as my Cub Cadet, Honda powered rear tine tiller works for me and I put on the hiller attachment when planting potatoes.

If BCS is as expensive in the EU to buy as the prices I was quoted in the USA, I have some sympathy for the OP experiencing any leakage. Didn't end up buying because it seemed like so much money for a 2 wheel machine.

I purchased my 853 for $3,300 used and it came with a rotary plow, it was well worth the cost.

Disagree, it is certainly a tractor and if you look up the definition of tractor it even says 2 wheel walk behind.

This is the generally accepted definition. One problem with modern society is the tendency to redefine terms to suit feelings rather than facts.

There is a sub forum dedicated/titled as "two wheel tractors", which is where this was correctly posted.

My Defunct New Holland dealer sold BCS tractors and I agonized over buying one until I found out what they cost. The one he had on the floor was a Hatz diesel. Back then it was insanely priced. Don't remember what it was but when I found out the price, I walked away. Long time ago. I don't believe you can get them with the diesel today, just a Honda gas motor. Hatz builds a bullet proof compresion start low powered, air cooled diesel engine.

Wikipedia is not a source. Calling them tractors is a serious stretch.

Show 100 people pictures of both and ask which is a tractor.

I said what I said. These are not tractors in the normal usage. Wikipedia is not a source. Both of these things are objectively true.
