I agree! I wasn't feeling right last week so I Googled my symptoms. Google told me I need another tractor so now I have 3, a sub, a compact and a full sized and each one gets a workout on our farm

As I get older the tractor enables me to do thing that I could not do with out it.

Took the thought right off my keyboard. Staying on acreage when you're in your 70s is much enhanced by getting some, and then using them, mechanical advantages. My sweetheart and I are coming up with every device we can find to protect our bodies and let us stay on our property.

I picked them up off of Amazon; they're not the best quality but they work for my needs.
Rollbacks use them to winch cars up onto them, hooks right up to the lower control arm or around the axle. I never knew about these until I did a stint driving tow trucks; they are extremely useful.

I've got two sets, one with a longer chain that I keep in my truck.

If I were using them commercially, towing for example, I'd go with a better brand- but for use around the house these work well.

Have your wife mow and ask her to pick up any branch's or knock down the mole holes she see's before she mow's over them. I just could not figure out how to make her understand why. Thinking back I guess I should have had her remove and install them when they went bad.lol

About the time I retired I went thru the shop to clean it up (in other words make another trail) and found almost 2 dozen blades that I just took off and tossed them somewhere over the years. If they weren't too bent I would just bang them back straight but basically gave up and tossed the bad ones in a pile to get at later. It finally dawned on me that the "great buy" I was getting for the blades were literally half the thickness of the "normal" blades. Had very few problems after getting the thicker blades.

I only have 5 acres but 3/4 was wooded and brushy. Due to the hours I worked I just didn't have the time to do stuff so decided on a tractor. What I needed or what I wanted was the biggest hurdle. Just built the house so money was a little bit of a deciding factor but ended up getting a JD 770 24 hp tractor with a 3 pt 5' Brush mower. Could have used a larger tractor but then the would it be oversized after everything is done? It did me good.

Just today we moved a very heavy glider style porch chair from the front porch to the back patio, using the FEL. 2 days ago I used the tractor to unload the 60 gal gas tank from the back of my truck. A couple days before that, I mowed about 2 acres with the tractor. Would not think about how much I use mine without posts like this.

Three of the four would be called "small".
"Expensive wheel barrows" is what my neighbor calls them. And he has a BX !

I have that same mower lift and decided after assembling it that those locking pins just weren't enought to make me feel comfortable working underneath it. I threw together a support to put in place when the lift was up at it's highest, the only position I would normally work under it, and now I believe it will support the advertised weight, even if the pins fail.

On the subject of blocking; I believe that a TBN member died several years ago when the piece of wood he was using to hold up his rotary mower split, causing it to drop on him. This got my attention as I often use a big piece of firewood for blocking.
Apparently it's better to have the grain parallel to the ground.

Excellent! I might need to steal your idea. So far I've just been placing jackstands under the wheel cages. It works but I hate having to run across the shop to get the stands every time I use the lift.

Small tractor was my first. The YM2000 and then I double the size with the
Ford 2000. The Yanmar is my FM pretty much and the Wooded area is what the 63 Ford FEL. is used for. Old as I am and seen it on CL. All intact with correct Era FEL.. I had to do a split and other things but I glad I did it and put it all back in working order.
No matter what I never rely on just a Hyd. jack. I always use Jack stands. Esp. when I Am servicing the mowers. I don't rely on just the Hyd. Lift. I've had no choice before but I make it quick if I'm under something. I'll use all 4 with 1 on each wheel and the 3Pt. still holding it up. The couple minutes to set them is worth it knowing your pretty safe. Still don't mean you can't have problem though.

I sometimes think "What if....I ever had to (God forbid) move back to a subdivision/suburban lawn situation?" Then, I start thinking that I might try keeping my tractor because it would be so handy, even though it would look strange in that setting.

There is a guy living not far from me in a subdivision that mows his lawn with a 9N and rotary cutter. Home association probably LOVES him!

Of course, if I kept the tractor, then I'd need to have the trailer to haul it with, and a place to store the attachments and..... then I'm right back to looking for another place to live with acreage and a shop.

I hear ya! I could not move back to a subdivision. Been out here over 20 years. I don't miss my neighbors looking back at me through their window as I am looking out my window.

1963 2000 gas. The clutch was stuck on it. Broken shifter fork also. I'm thinking from the looks of the old clutch. It was the 2 Stage stuck then the shifter was broken from what the shop showed me of the damage. Pry bar stuck in Rev. so we was pretty sure of it. Shop has been around for decades!! I still have it everything works ASIS.. CL. that was basically all intact FEL. etc. Old as I am same Yr.
