Hi-fi specialist B&W has developed the in-car system for the new Jaguar XF, so we've been putting one through its paces to find out how it sounds

Here is a review from 2008
Buppies, absolutely agree to sonic accuracy and quality of Bowers and Wilkins, was in my Volvo as a 3200 dollar option.
And boy was it worth it. I can create that quality at home, for a lot less, and have, but in the Volvo, a center mounted ball shaped omni tweeter
just made the music come alive. I think twelve speakers, who knows, ones up front that matter. Most folks in the back want you to turn it down anyway... B&W is not B&O, different companies, B&W makes high end home speakers considered some of finest in the world.
They did the upfront engineering to really make a nice system first for that Jaguar. Too bad the rest of the car wasn't built that well.
What a looker though. One you look back at when you head for the store...
for me, the question is how much do the vocals show up in the low frequencies that get sent to the
door speakers? Lots of folks have replaced the door speakers too for the full effect, and online at least the results are very positive.
"like taking a wet cloth off the speakers". I'm hoping the dash speakers will give the normal stereo response, some sense of sound stage and
improve the midrange and highs. Perhaps if I watch the youtube how to video on the door speakers I might try doing that, but likely not without another set of more competent eyes watching. There are zero rattles and squeaks in this 85k mile car. I want to keep it that way and taking the dash or doors apart always involves risk. But popping a speaker cover off and swapping out speakers is not hard.
he said with cautious optimism.
I'd love to get the schematic for this system and see what the crossover frequencies are. Pretty sure the electronic spec Lexus set for Pioneer
on this unit was good, but all car builders cheap out on the base oem speakers. Many folks are happy with a mid bass thump.
I've cranked it up, as usual always sounds better louder but still sounds like depressed highs. Cymbals disappear.
The upmarket Mark Levinson model seems to add an outboard amplifier and more/better speakers to the same head unit.
I bet the leather in that Jag smelled nice. Real wood, nice smell, nice sounds from powerful engine, life is good.
