Ok so I already know where the dipstick is and the fill port, however my question is the appropriate time to measure the level.

Assuming I am parked on a flat surface. If I remove the dipstick with the engine cold, I actually hear a momentary socking and gurgling sound and then there is little or no oil on the dipstick. However if I run the tractor for 30 mins or more and then check when its hot, the oil gushes rapidly out of the dipstick hole like its way overfilled.

So the question is when the heck do you check the hydraulic oil to get an accurate measurement?

You will get the most accurate reading when you fix the clogged transmission vent. I am not sure where it is on the DK45 but on the DK45S the vent is in the rubber red fill plug pigtail.

I have the low pressure return line from an attachment plugged into that at the moment. I can unscrew it but its in a major PITA location with the attachments I am running.

I just brought it up because without the tranny vent working it will create a vacuum when cold which would explain the sucking sound when the dipstick is removed, and also the boiling over effect when hot.
