Woods 90" Finish Mower RD990X windrows cuttings

Is there any way to make this mower spread the clippings more evenly rather than windrowing? Cutting height and height of grass makes no difference. Getting to the point that I'm considering selling and buying something more efficient. There again, if I decide to sell, can you make some suggestions as to brands/models that do a good job of distributing the clippings. Hoping some of you experts can offer some insight. Thanks.

My rear discharge 84" mower will windrow high and/or wet grass.
Try swapping out the blades to a higher lift type, cutting only dry grass, or cutting more frequently.

My rear discharge will windrow if cutting low and wet grass, otherwise it spreads evenly.

My Frontier 21' batwing FM is 3 - Betstco rear discharge decks. It never windrows and I cut pretty high grass. I cut it down to 1.75" when I cut as well.

I have a Woods RD8400, if the grass is high it will windrow somewhat to the left side and with all the heat and humidity the grass is about double in height to what it normally is when I cut. My normal cut height is 3" and the grass is cut once a week, I refuse to cut it more often because I HATE MOWING! Over a weeks time between cuttings the grass has been growing to 6" or better so I am getting some windrowing

Clippings often "snag" on cut quality issues going on underneath causing the windrow. Rake a little of the windrow off and inspect the cut underneath. You may find the root cause there.

Know that 'forward sweep' (region where the blades are going forward) is the weakest part of the cut. The mower housing is pushing grass forward; the forward sweep is going the same direction and not lifting. If forward sweep is aligned with a tire track from the tractor.... the cut will be the worst. Is that where the windrow is??? To improve cut (and thus windrowing) try:

• Mowing at WOT (wide open throttle) Give her full chooch.
• Sharp blades
• Lower ground speed
• Lower cut height... 3". Cutting high is difficult to cut well

If cut issues/windrows are still present, not much else you can do except shift the mower or the tractor tire offset. Pay attention how your NEXT mower aligns to the tractor. Hope this helps!

My BIL has one and his will windrow some if he goes fast in tall grass. When he goes slower it does a pretty nice job. His has chains over the discharge.

If it has rear discharge chains, try removing them. It made a big difference on my 7.5 ft rear deck.

I have been thinking of doing that on my Frontier 4072 RFM to lessen or eliminate the clumps of cut grass but I have some walnut trees close to the house and the road, so I'm a little gun-shy.

But if it really helps, I just might risk it.

I have a woods RD8400 and have the same windrow problem. I generally mow every 7 or 8 days. Only way I can get a cut with little windrowing is to mow every 5 or 6 days. Removed my rear chains and it might have helped a little but not very much.
