Weed wacker - extending string life

I use the Echo hand held trimmer with 0.95 line for normal lawn and light weed cutting. But for weeds with heavy stalks and other heavy uses, I get out my Echo wheeled trimmer that uses 1.55 diameter line. That thing is a beast. It has a Honda 4 cycle engine that makes short work of trimming heavy vegetation.

I'm hoping the 780 ft spool of .095 square line I bought for my Stihl will flow thru the new Speed Feed 400 head I just bought. The line isn't that expensive, less than the cost of the Speed Feed head, but I hate throwing away anything that's perfectly good and useable.

Any string size 0.95 or less I’ve used on the Echo speed feed head works fine.

Big strings really work well when you got serious weeds and tree shoots to knock down but I'd not recommend it when you have plants, furniture or buildings you don't want to damage. Hope that makes sense. We run 155 in the field and usually 105 string at home on a bump head.

I guess one advantage of the speed feed head is that, with it being so much faster and easier to load, there's less incentive to always buy the largest line your trimmer head can handle.

They also likely hold more length of a smaller line, which becomes a PITA to load on a traditional head, but easy to load into the Speed Feed.

Have a blade that looks similar to a triangle for heavy weeds and can be sharpened with a file, switch to 10" carbide tipped blade when going gets tough. Only use that couple times a year at farm. Around house a small trimmer handles most of trimming
Sounds like mine. It's for my Dewalt unit. I have a saw blade option I bought online, but didn't fit my old trimmer. I should see if it will work on this one.

My Stihl cutter takes a 1" arbor hole but most blades also come with an adapter that takes it to 20mm. I have cut saplings over 2" with the carbide blade. Hitting an occasional rock doesn't seem to dull them much

The Shindawa Speed-Feed 400 head I just bought says it will take 20' of .095, and .105 max.

My live-at-home 37 yr old son (long story) does most of the trimming and was slightly aggravated. He's been running the DeWalt for about 4 years now and just got loading the Husky T25 loading down pat. :)

I've got the 3 yellow blades on my weedwacker, I change them maybe once or twice a year. They're cheap and last a really long time unless i'm hitting something like concrete.
