That's their prerogative. Then they better get working on their preferred energy source.
I worked on a project years ago, where an island had windmills provide their base electrical power. During the evenings, when power demand was down, the excess electrical power then powered electrolysis for hydrogen generation. The hydrogen was then used in the mobile fleet on the island.

The numbers never worked out, but it was an ingenious attempt and still worthy of research.
We are in our infancy toward renewables and I’m willing to bet we will eventually skip over them altogether once fusion alternatives are solved.
There is no energy density in wind or solar for the energy purposes of 7 billion ppl.

I don’t see fusion being accepted any better that nuclear fission.

Completely different process.
Does not produce the waste of nuclear fission.
Fission derives heat from splitting atoms.
Fusion combines atoms.

Is there are big push to upgrade power gen and distribution systems in NZ. If you go the EV direction you will need to double if not quadruple those capacities. Here we see planned truck charging stations not being build because the local utility has NO way to provide the amount of power required to those locations since often is requires more power than their entire system uses today.
3rd world counties can dream and bankrupt their population but that does not make it right or feasible.

I like options and use what works best for me, I use wood heat because I have the resource on hand. Electric is installed but useless during an ice storm or flooding. Propane is expensive but I keep a few a couple hundred gallons in the tank just in case. Mandate for just electric would be ignored by me. My substation is 30 miles with lots of trees and creeks crossing the single power line, no secondary path and when the creeks get rolling or we get ice many miles power are kaput. Being on the few residents out here we are very very low on the priority list of our small coop.

I wish you the best but I'm a realist
Can’t really ignore and substitute wood heat as neighbors are encouraged to turn in neighbors here and new installs no longer allowed…

Growing up my parents had lots of friends asking for storm fall oak… can’t give it away now..

Having a background in nuclear energy, I understand that.

However most of the public do not have a clue.

I think a viable option may be a twist on what I posted above. Where nuclear (fusion or fission) is used to produce power and during the off-peak periods, the excess power is used for electrolysis to create hydrogen. The hydrogen is then used in a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle.

I know
Everything is a Chernobyl or 3 mile island to them.
Nuclear is a completely viable energy source. 32 different types of nuclear power plants with two of them eating the waste product now stored in mountain crypts.
Instead they’re making us jump thru hoops with the not ready for prime time renewable energy saga.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the earth is moving closer to the sun and they’re afraid to tell us that we’ll all be incinerated in 500 yrs.

I've been hearing this for years decades but still don't know anything about it. Can you expand on this comment... in a way that any idiot can relate to? 😁

We`re getting closer to a time where we will not be the UNITED states much longer. Shall we have 50 countries instead of states?
In many ways we're already there. Both sides are equally guilty of this...taking extreme positions on issues and then refusing to budge or compromise. Hopefully, we're not so far along this path that we'll never recover.

Speaking of EVs, I see another automaker is scaling back on them citing weak demand.

Yes
It’s called transmutation.
Basically, they utilize a method called Fast fission and are able to absorb and utilize the fuel rods that were considered nuclear waste and stored away presently
There is also a type of plant (msr’s or molten salt reactors) utilizing molten salt instead of solid fuel where the superheated chloride causes atoms to split.
