When I met my wife in 1972 she made dandelion wine in one on those 5 gallon glass bottles people put coins in. I helped pick lots of dandelions, it had oranges, lemons, sugar & yeast in it. After sitting for weeks it got pretty nasty looking and this big blob would float to the top, air would come out, sink down, repeat.
No one would drink it.
My wife read somewhere once that you could make tea from the blossoms. We tried it. Once. It was nasty.
Kale is a nutrition superstar due to the amounts
of vitamins A, B6, C, K, folate, fiber, carotenoids
and manganese it contains. One cup of raw kale
has just 20 calories. The Department of
Agriculture's MyPlate recommends any child
and adult who is over the age of 9 eat at least
1.5-2 cups of dark-green vegetables every
week.
Now if they could only make it taste like pizza. :ROFLMAO:
I don't mind beet greens, dandelion greens (early in the season only) or swiss chard. Kale, not so much.

Today's peeve:
I go to a local gas station to fill truck and six containers of gasoline & diesel. Swipe card, press button and LCD screen lights up blaring "music" I hate (rap) and ads for crap. 10 minutes of loud rap & crap!
Whatever happened to peace & quiet and do people have to have noise all the time?

I totally agree, and do not go back to those stations if I can help it. If it weren't for the inevitable cameras, I'd silence the stupid media devices.
Score one for the EV crowd.

Often one of the buttons next to the screen will mute it. It had been used so often at one station I go to that it wore out. They must have gotten the hint because they no longer run ads.

I have a wheelbarrow load of peeves.
Today a fellow shows up to give a price on replacement windows. We've been here 45 years, old house but completely remodeled except small back porch has original windows. Four small windows, replacement simple vinyl ones.
Guy shows up in his brand new Ram 3500 truck...I'm sure $100K+ and Apple MacBook Pro.
Four 2ft x 3ft windows. Over $4,000.
Common sense...when a contractor shows up for an estimate I want to see un-manicured fingernails!
Years ago I had entire house new plumbing. First guy shows up in a 3 piece suit, new Suburban wearing a Rolex. Of course he never even looked under the house or inside...just said "$8 grand".
Another plumber did the entire job for $900 (40 years ago...fine ever since).

My neighbor, retired fire fighter, started his own window replacement business. He installs for Pela. He told me he makes more installing windows than he did as a fire fighter.

My dad is having his roof replaced for $15,000. I suppose it's a 2500 sq. ft. house. The kicker is, they guy doing the job is 76 years old and has one kid helping him, sometimes.

How about contractors that price their job according to the perceived wealth of the owner? We used to live in a small and relatively modest house, and due to being a two-career household with no kids and both of us having "highly-compensated" jobs, we had money to spare back then.

Then we buy this big expensive behemouth of a house on a larger property, which was admittedly a bit of a stretch for us at the time, and suddenly contractors are quoting us double, triple... sometimes quadruple price for the same exact jobs we'd had done at the old place. I always told them they missed the boat, we had more money to spare when we were in the small house! :p

At my old house, which was much larger in an expensive neighborhood.
They quoted me 5-7000 for a new driveway. It almost held four cars.
I found someone who knew what they were doing and got it done for $1700.

We had a neighbors contractor come over to quote us a drop ceiling in the basement.
His quote $35,000. When I worked out the cost of materials at the time, I think it was less than $4000.
Nice markup he wanted.
I could see the $ sign in the eyes of people who came in to give me quotes.

I was getting bids to replace a kitchen floor. They wanted all the money upfront and wanted me to sign a contract that essentially said, when we rip up your old floor we might have to charge you more money for extra floor prep. Not a fly by night company.

I have always been under the impression that you withhold an amount until the job is completed to your satisfaction. Seems like that concept is going away.

We always did 1/3 or 1/2 up front, rest on completion along with itemized agreed list of any changes. All changes approved when noted and discussed.
