Aftermarket stereo install in an NX cab

Hoping to create an information base here for installing an aftermarket stereo in an NX cab. I didn't opt for a factory stereo because I wanted bluetooth (at the time of purchase of my NX bluetooth wasn't available).

Thanks to this thread there is a great solution for a wire harness adapter.

I bought this JVC KD-X33 MBS stereo and am now puzzling over how to install (which is why I started this thread).

I have approximately 1/4" clearance all around on each side of the stereo as it sits in the opening. Unit is pretty shallow, so no concerns over depth.

What have folks done for the physical mounting? (I have one thought, but I'll wait to hear what others say so I don't influence others' thoughts.)

I have used the blanking plate and cut an exact hole with a Dremel to fit the radio/CD/MP3 player. I then used a metal mounting strip (alloy) from somewhere in my junk - to anchor the back of the radio to the chassis (had the roof off anyway for DAB aerial fitment).

Same here, just trim out the blank panel.

Not finding any suitable strap metal around

But, I've got a really good fit with the blank-off plate cut out and the stereo's trim piece on. They lock together pretty well. The stereo doesn't want to move in either direction. May just install it like this and see how it holds up. There's only about 3 1/2" of the stereo's chassis sticking out in the back; the blank-off plate's tabs (1/2") seem like they may be able to support the unit.

I didn't use a back support either, but mine is a super lite and short radio, no cd or anything, just radio with weather band. In the past I've used a long bolt or all thread to screw into the radio and just sticks through the rear support hole.

country, are you saying you're not currently using a rear support? "In the past" - you've had other stereos?

This unit has a threaded hole in a heat sink in the back and I'd thought about threading something in it that would extend back into the tractor's bracket. Just not sure it's warranted: if I have something on hand I might look to do it, but if not I'll just forgo and see how it works.

Yes that's correct no rear support because my radio is only about 3 inches deep. This is the only radio I've had in my NX, but have installed many radios in other vehicles and tractors over the years.

Got the install finished. I added a rear support just in case. I suspect I'll need to add brackets to the sides, but will see how it holds up without for now.
