Well I have certainly been giving the 3016 a workout lately as I have been clearing forest to allow for space to build a new garage. After 2 hours digging out an ash stump with the backhoe it finally came free. The backhoe wasn't powerful enough to pull the stump out of the hole so I tried with the front end loader which was equipped with my grapple. While trying to pull it out, I heard a loud noise (sounded like a gunshot) and then hydraulic fluid started spaying. I turned off the tractor and found that the tilt cylinder rod on the left side was broken in half and the cylinder rod on the right side was bent.

Expensive mishap.....$1,040.00 CDN for two new cylinders.

I don't have much choice. The hydraulic shop that I took it to quoted me $725.00 to repair, however, I would have to supply the seal kit as they can't get the correct seals from any of their suppliers. The seal kits from Mahindra are expensive also....so at the end of the day it isn't much of a difference repairing them. The cylinders that KMW used on the loader are from Italy.

Well, look at it this way: It IS VERY pretty paint on your tractor, lousy steel, but pretty paint. Are you thinking what else may be minimum sourced?

I'd go online and buy a pair of two similar cylinders and go from there. Maybe even swap the guts from the new cylinders and keep the old bodies so the paint still matches...

See if any of these match or so close that they might get the job done. I would try another hyd shop.

The cylinders are all black so the paint is pretty easy to match. LOL

Couple of years back I had one tilt cylinder rebuilt locally.
Shop machined a new shaft, installed all new seals, painted and replaced a short hose that I had left on (was actually OK).
My cost was $160.00 (Cdn) (24" cylinder) and shaft was chromed as well!

Buddy of mine also had both his tilt cylinders re done last year for $200. each. (Cdn)

Suggest you do a bit more shopping, find a real hydraulic shop.

Those are KMW cylinders, not Mahindra.

I know guys who would straighten that rod. I hate to say it but how about Princess Auto? Can't be worse than what you had. Or, there are Mennonite shops that make cylinders. Where in Ontario are you?

That does strike me as strange. I have some (I believe) capable equipment, and as a rule, never feel like I can apply enough force to break anything before my reliefs disappoint me. I mean hydraulic force, not using momentum.

Darned if I would pay over a thousand bucks for two "factory" cylinders. I'm not married to any brand with that kind of dedication. I'd order two like cylinders and a can of black spray paint. Those two cylinders can be had new for less than $400USD.

On the damage analysis; Looks like you had the bucket down and started moving backwards without lifting. Pilot error! :)
