110 hrs max 25 - dies after start

just got in and posting this - even before i look on the threads. Been a long dy and now frustrated. worked on the tractor for about an hr - shutdown for maybe 20' to take care of a new pup - just lost my best buddy a couple of weeks ago. went to start it - started - no probleem - got a bucket of chips for the vineyard again - as i was this morning - and then half way down the path it died. tried starting many times and die after start. looked at the fuel bowl and se no shutoff. So wondering what people might think this is. stuvk ina weird place here.i am not stupid - but almost so i do not know what many of you know so please be patient and explain in as much detail as possible. have to take care of a few things - clean out stove for fire tonight - then shower and then check though the manual.

On the surface, it sounds like a fuel flow issue. Maybe you're not getting the flow due to dirty filter, or water in the line. Might start by disconnecting the inbound fuel line to the filter(s) to be sure fuel is getting there from the tank. If you have a drain plug in the filter to release water, I'd try that as well. (I assume you checked your fuel level in the tank)

Next check the line coming FROM the filter to see if you're getting proper flow. If not, you've isolated the problem...the filter.

Thanks so much. i always keep the fuel topped off. i have to find the filter- still have not checked out the manual yet to try to find it. someone down the road said there should be a shutoff for the diesel to the see though/fuel line piece/bowl. sorry forgot the name - been a long day. but i do not see any fuel shutoff. and the fuel lines seem to disappear behind a number of pieces of the various engine parts. will have to try to check it out tomorrow though i had other stuff on the agenda. need to get this fixed asap. so thank you.

Not sure about your particular model, but my 2538 has 2 different fuel filters. Check your manual to see if you have 2 as well.

Also...if you haven't cleaned your air filter for a while, it might be choking off enough air to make it die. It should be cleaned once a week, or every day in dusty conditions.

I had an issue on my max 28. It just wouldn't start. The spade up top by the fuel rail was dirty. Not sure if that's any help? Since yours was running

it ran fine before i restarted it. so i am thinking fuel related.

Don’t believe you have a fuel shutoff valve on the Max. To remove the filter you unscrew the bowl and a check valve automatically shuts off the fuel. If you want to disconnect fuel lines use a pair of vise grips on the fuel line upstream of the filter. Just be gentle in squeezing the hose.

ok thanks again everyone. so the bowl does screw off? seemed tight. i have used channel locks for the hode clipd. id ht whst you mean? clips on the hose or just the actual hose?

Here’s the info from the Max 28 manual, not sure if it’s the same or not but it may help you.
