Got the tractor back together. Got the mid and rear sections bolted back up and pulled the rockshaft to reseal the lift piston. Side note, it’s a lot easier to fill the transmission without the rockshaft in place. With everything clean it went back together well. Final verdict, no more leak...
Got the tractor split today:
Now to clean the gasket surfaces and order some new o-rings for all the hydraulic fittings I disconnected (everything is o-ring face seal). Looking forward to getting this thing resealed and holding oil again.
Over the last year my 4410 has developed a hydraulic leak where the mid section bolts to the rear case of the transmission, just above and to the right of the suction screen. Lately the leak has gotten worse, plus with the tractor getting a backhoe subframe installed recently it acts as a catch...
A friend of mine recently gave me a Yanmar YKT40 tiller that needed a new chain (was missing it entirely). Nonetheless I have a new chain waiting to go on it. Now fast forward a few days..
I was on a jobsite and noticed this Kobashi tiller near where I was working. What’s interesting is it is...
I’d expect a slight gain in top speed as these are taller than the R1’s they replaced but would fall within the speed specs of a factory equipped turf tire 955.
Over the last year I’ve been rebuilding and restoring a John Deere 955. The rear wheels had pretty well rotted out from calcium leaks and also bled calcium through the side walls.
Back in the 90’s John Deere had 3 tire options, R1’s, R3’s, and R4’s. The largest tire size offered was the R3...
I probably wash my tractor once or twice a month. I use a hot water pressure washer which does a great job cutting through any smeared grease and have a few different degreasers for when it’s really bad. Typically in the winter I wax the green panels on the tractor, it does give it some shine...
I’ve got both a tooth bucket and smooth bucket for my skidsteer. The tooth bucket is great for getting under a packed road base, hard clay, or packed sand in horse arenas. It’s also great for spreading loose material over a packed surface since in reverse the teeth skim over that packed surface...
Over the years I’ve used a number of things to grade gravel roads. My go to now is my tracked skidsteer with a tilt tatch and typically my tooth bucket. This setup is heavy enough to break through the hard packed gravel as well as establish a crown on a formerly flat graded road. I have a...
Personally haven’t dealt with this specifically on my 955 yet (although I’ve fixed plenty of other things on it). I can see if I can find that procedure in the service manual. Another great resource is there is a Facebook group specific to the 50, 55, and 70 series Deere compacts that’s a wealth...
Ever since I went to college (diesel mechanic) I’ve strived to work on different and unique things. This street sweeper was one of my most odd purchases, mainly tinkered with it until I was moving and sold it since I didn’t want to move it. It was incredibly primitive, it had everything it...
Been a while once I’ve posted an update but the 4100 has undergone some transformations.
I located a new takeoff mid mower deck with 15 min of run time on it and decided to turn the 4100 into a big riding mower.
I absolutely love the cut with the deck on the 4100 but in the wetter...
