Why don’t you own a toothbar?

I’ve got both a tooth bucket and smooth bucket for my skidsteer. The tooth bucket is great for getting under a packed road base, hard clay, or packed sand in horse arenas. It’s also great for spreading loose material over a packed surface since in reverse the teeth skim over that packed surface...

Skid Steer or CUT for Road Maintenance?

Over the years I’ve used a number of things to grade gravel roads. My go to now is my tracked skidsteer with a tilt tatch and typically my tooth bucket. This setup is heavy enough to break through the hard packed gravel as well as establish a crown on a formerly flat graded road. I have a...

    John Deere 955 won't move.

Personally haven’t dealt with this specifically on my 955 yet (although I’ve fixed plenty of other things on it). I can see if I can find that procedure in the service manual. Another great resource is there is a Facebook group specific to the 50, 55, and 70 series Deere compacts that’s a wealth...

What is the oddest machine you have worked on or operated

Ever since I went to college (diesel mechanic) I’ve strived to work on different and unique things. This street sweeper was one of my most odd purchases, mainly tinkered with it until I was moving and sold it since I didn’t want to move it. It was incredibly primitive, it had everything it...

    New (to me) 4100

Been a while once I’ve posted an update but the 4100 has undergone some transformations. I located a new takeoff mid mower deck with 15 min of run time on it and decided to turn the 4100 into a big riding mower. I absolutely love the cut with the deck on the 4100 but in the wetter...

    Scut with mid mount mower

Most SCUT manufactures offer a mid-mounted mower for their tractors. Personally, I mow with an older Deere 4100 with a mid-mounted mower and love it. I'd really go sit on whatever local brands tractors you have in your area, part of it is personal preference of the machine, the other part is the...

    Does Anyone Buy Used Tractors?

In terms of my excavation equipment that I depend on every day, I generally buy new. But for stuff around the house, I've had a number of used tractors. John Deere 4100 FWD not working

I’d honestly start by pulling the left hub/spindle apart to see what the clicking noise is. Hopefully it’s just a matter of replacing bearings / seals but it’s hard to say without getting into it. Overall the 4100’s are solid tractors, I have 4500 hrs on mine and it’s still going strong.

Mid mount mower for older Deere 3320

It’s possible with enough searching. I just added a mid mounted mower to my 4100. Found the mower on marketplace with most of the linkage, sourced the missing parts from eBay and Deere. Considering my tractor is 23 years old I’d say you have a better shot of finding everything to make it work.

    New (to me) 4100

Ultimately yes, I do plan to do the back half when things aren’t so busy. Years ago I also did all of this to a 4400 for my parents. It’s plastic was badly oxidized and some of it was broken. Burned Up Trailer Wiring

Most likely it’s a safety switch that is preventing the tractor from starting. I bought 4 trackers from SVR Tracking a few months ago. These were recommended by a friend who owns a rental yard so I figured it was worth a try. Manual tilt vs Electric tilt trailers?

I’ve not seen an electric tilt fail however you could probably adjust the relief valve to get the deck to tilt if the system was to fail. Really it all depends on what you intended to use it for. If just hauling a tractor or equipment I’d just go with gravity tilt. If hauling cars or pickup...

Excavator v. Skid Steer for Hobby Farmer?

Having both, I use my skidsteer around my property considerably more than the excavator. The skidsteer is more versatile, you can move things faster over a distance. Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Started in on resealing the front end tonight and ran into a minor issue. Based on the way the manual reads the stub shaft should just slide out of the knuckle bit the bottom bearing seems to be stuck on the shaft. Any recommendations on how to get the shaft out so I can replace the seals? Any...

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Finally getting the wiring dialed in on the 186D. Headlights and work light are now working, new orange flashing lights and switch, and now the horn works.

    New to me 226D

Not much of an update but slowly working on pulling the dash apart since all of the dummy lights are broke out. Been mainly focusing on getting the 186D done but now that I have parts I’m hoping to get started on the 226D soon which looks like it might turn into a mild restoration.
  102. Johndeere3720

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Had another chance today to work on the 186D. I had ordered a new ignition switch for the 226D and figured I’d try swapping that over. Same result, still wouldn’t charge. I traced out the wiring harness and found some bad connections. Fixed those and once again, wouldn’t charge. I tried the...

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Had a chance to work on the 186D last night and ran into an issue. Installed a new generator and still have the battery light on. New voltage regulator too. Looks like I’ll be digging deeper into the wiring to figure out why this tractor won’t charge. I did notice that with the key on, engine...

    New to me 226D

Decided to drain the tank tonight on the 226 and clean some of the junk out of the bottom of it. Modified the fuel line a bit and rebled the fuel system with fresh fuel. It finally starts good but still has some major lag when you throttle up from a low idle. When running I think it sounds like...

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

I got it from a fellow off Redland Rd in Oregon City, he apparently bought the 226D and an older 30hp Kioti about a year ago from another local.
  107. Johndeere3720

    New to me 226D

Oh it definitely is! I think I’ll probably stick with this 226D if I can get it dialed in, I like that it’s a little heavier since the finish mower kinda pushes the 186D around on inclines. If you’re ever back in the area you should stop by my yard and see my collection, it seems to cover 3...

    New to me 226D

Posted this on my other thread but figured I’d start a new thread for the “new” tractor. This one is a Yanmar YM226D, let’s just say it needs some love. - Clutch releases basically at the bottom of the pedal (can’t shift ranges or into the PTO when running) - front axle pivot is pretty worn...

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Happened to be working 15 min away from the 226D and ended up picking it up. [emoji28] It needs quite a bit of work, the clutch is pretty much non-existent, previous owner ran it out of fuel today and must’ve put bad fuel in it and not bled it right because it really struggles to start and...

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Little update for the day: Upon testing the regulator I got continuity on pins that I shouldn’t have so I picked up a new regulator in town. I also found the main wire loom had some chafed wires due to the steering lever shield. I repaired the two wires that had been exposed and started to...

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Lol I don’t need it, I’d really like to see it go to a good home. Here’s a screenshot of the ad: I mowed some more with the 186D and I think it’ll do what I want, plus if I wanna go faster I’ve got a brushcat for my skidsteer that’s 2-3x faster.

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

It’s definitely been a minute, I still have some yanmar sketches hidden in a drawer somewhere. Wish you were still on the east side, seems like the yanmar parts are becoming scarce around here since Raffi just retired. Heck it’d be nice just to catch up sometime!

Might be getting back into a Yanmar

Yep, that’s me! Bought the 169D at age 14, I’m 25 now so it’s been a little while. Might be getting back into a Yanmar

I’ll have to mess with the alternator and see if it’s charging erratically or even at all. I picked up a 5ft finish mower on my way home last night and wanted to give the 186D a try. Initially it smoked bad so I pulled the fuel filter canister which looked to be spray painted over to find this...

It’s certainly been a while, almost 10 years ago I sold my YM169D to purchase my first skidsteer. 276D electrical

I was asked if I could get a Yanmar tractor to run again. I assume it is a 276D, I have seen it from a distance in person. It has an electrical problem, the symptoms are "like a dead battery" yet the owner installed a new battery and it still does the same. Hasent ran in 5 months supposably. My...

In July, I came across a deal and sure enough took it. It included an Allis Chalmers 610 and two Simplicity Broadmoor lawn tractors as well as some boxes of parts and a 36" MMM and a 30" belt driven rotary tiller. Being the tractor fanatic that I am I hauled them home and all of the sudden had a...

Just sold a couple attachments, still have more to sell though

Well, i just sold both my bush hog and my post hole digger today. I still have several attachments and my tractor to sell. I am not doing it for no reason, I have my eye on upgrading to a tractor with a FEL or a skid steer loader. Of the time i have had my tractor, the lack of a FEL has shown...

What is your favorite feature on your tractor?

It's simple really, what is the best feature(s) on your tractor? It could be a factory installed feature or one that you added on yourself. This ranges from hydraulic ports, to cup holders, to extra lighting, and most everything in between. Mine is the factory installed rear work...

    The lawn tractor project

Well, It was now I think 2 weeks ago on Tuesday??? that I bought myself 2 small lawn tractors to mess with. I got the 3 for $20 and that also included a 36" mower deck and a small tiller. What is your most used implement?

The title says it all. It can range from FEL's to box blades to Bush hogs, most anything you use the most on your tractor. For me, It is probably my Brush hog. Even with it being seasonal it gets the most hours of use than most of my other implements. I have to mow the property every 2 weeks...

    A PTO shaft day

It started when i decided to fix up my neighbor's John Deere 413 brush hog a few weeks ago. He and I made a deal that I could sell it and get half profit. So of course, I couldnt pass it up.:D It had a dent in the back, so I pounded it back, welded up the cracks, and painted it. Then...

Fixing my Agric AL 50 yet again.....

When I last used my tiller on Monday, it was leaking gear oil really bad from the gear box. I knew it was the seal that goes around the PTO stub so today i decided to take it apart to see what was going on. Sure enough, it was the PTO stub seal, so we ordered one today. Also, when I last used my...

    What would you change?

What would you change if you were the one behind the design of your tractor? There are a lot of simple things that i can think about but i can say that i wish my YM169D had a 3rd range in the tranny, a reverser and a little bigger engine.

3-Point Hitch  169D 3 point hitch is weak

Last night i went out on my tractor to enjoy the nice weather and level out some ground where we dug up some stumps last year. My box blade got packed with mud and I tried to lift it and my tractor would not. So i backed up and got it cleaned out and it can only lift my box blade 4" off the...
