    Hay Rake Identification

Having spent a lot of summers in the Austrian mountains these rakes are used a lot still by hillside farmers often in a setup used like the picture attached! They’re ideal for this use as when they are trying to rake every scrap of grass they’ve cut they get right right into every corner!

How Many Have More Than One Tractor?

We have 3 currently but looking to get a 4th as we increase farmed area. Started off with a Yanmar 169D, little 16hp beast my grandad bought nearly new back when he was renovating and rebuilding the house. Did everything we ever asked of it just sometimes jobs took a bit longer and had to get...

Twine bunching up on my knotters

Hi all. Am running an old New Holland 68 Super Hayliner. Last year when I got it, it was only tying on one side so I sharpened the knives and seems to have solved the problem and it’s tying fine now. Before starting this year I re sharpened the knives. Only thing I’ve noticed is this year I’ve...

    New Holland 68 Knotter

So I acquired a NH68 baler that’s in perfect working order except the knifes need sharpening. I understand you have to undo the bolt that holds the knitters down then flip them up in order to remove the knife arm for sharpening? Is that right or can it be done without removing the knife arm...

Small Tractor Baling - a report

I picked up a brand new 3.8m rotary rake I got for £2200 here in the uk. Was a dealer closing down so selling at much reduced price. I’ve always been a fan of the wheel rakes but I think it will have to be pretty spectacular to turn me back to a wheel rake having run this one

Splitting my disc mower cutting bed

So I’ve got an old Kuhn disc mower which I’ve stripped right down and everything is off except this one nut that has rusted to a round head. Photo is shown below just wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to get it off? As the end of the bolt is beyond the nut I’m reluctant to try welding...

Buying Advice  Skid steer vs loader tractor vs telehandler

Got a small farm in Devon, England so land is not flat in the slightest. At the moment we are just running an old IH 454 with a front loader but looking for something a bit bigger and 4wd. Currently moving silage on a rear bale handler. Main uses would be moving straw and silage around for...

    Rebuilding an old disc mower?

Back in the end of the summer my old Taarup 1650 disc mower seized and stalled my tractor half way through cutting a 8ac field. I haven’t had the time or money to tear into it yet but I’m assuming it’s bearings in the cutter bar seized? Assuming I can even get the parts, from peoples experience...

    Drum mower problems

I’ve got a Fahr KM22 Drum mower. Was mowing yesterday and all seemed to be going ok but then noticed that it didn’t seem to be cutting well. Think that the belts were slipping? They were tensioned to what it suggests in the book and had been ok cutting the 15ac I’d mowed the day before. The...

    Compact tractor using bale accumulator

Hi all. Have been asked to make some fields of small bales for a friend about 5 miles from home. It’s about 8 acres and he apparently normally gets 4-600 bales off of it but looks thicker than normal this year so could be more. I’m not keen on taking my accumulator over due to distance. The guy...
